Seems to me that 2years is pretty stiff for carrying an unlicensed weapon and shooting your self with it. He'd been better off driving while intoxicated and running over a pedestrian in a cross walk and killing him, that only got Stallworth a 30 day sentence (or something like that).

I'm not a big Plax fan, he's probably a thug, but still seems excessive. I would think 90 days, then probation, fine, manditory gun classes, etc would be more appropriate for a 1st time offender.

    Terry,

#1, I totally disagree with the "punishment" of Stallworth. Of course that could have something to do with the fact that he announces his high school as where he is from rather than his college.

#2, criminals with guns are what causes law abiding citizens grief. He is a criminal if he was unlicensed to carry. He is careless/negligent when he carried one in the chamber without the proper safety. Whether intentional or not, he discharged a firearm within the city limits without being in fear of his life.

If you ask me, the system was too lenient on both of them.

All I know about Burress from reading the saga is that what he did, according to NY law, warrants mandatory jail time, and the prosecutor was adamant in his public statements that he wanted Burress to serve time in jail. I'm guessing that his plea resulted in less time than he would have gotten if convicted by a jury.

Tom, I appreciate your reasoned and knowledgeable comments about what Burress did.

Whoops! I corrected my above post to refer to Burress. I originally said in the first sentence, "All I know about Stallworth......."

Maybe he'll get some "compassionate" Scott to let him out early.

Burriss gets one year for carrying a loaded gun into a bar and one year for being a lifelong blooming idiot. Seems fair.

I see that Plax has hired a consultant to prepare him for life in the big house.

hmmmm wonder what advice he can give? If you drop the soap just leave it there? :)
