This page allows you to answer questions about characteristics you'd like in your new pope. I ended up with Swiss Cardinal Kurt Koch...a moderate.

Papabile means "considered a likely contender for pope"
The multilingual archbishop of Boston, who has a doctorate in Spanish and Portuguese literature, was assigned to serve the Hispanic population by the archdiocese of Washington after being ordained a priest in 1970. He was director of the Apostolate for Hispanics in Washington, DC, and director of social services for Spanish-speaking ministries in San Francisco. In 1984 he was appointed coadjutor bishop of Saint Thomas in the Virgin Islands and is known for his work with the homeless and for opening a home for those with Aids. In 2003 he was appointed archbishop of Boston. OMalley helped pioneer a system in which abuse allegations were referred to a social worker outside the church and has stated a zero tolerance policy towards sexual abuse. He was created a cardinal by Benedict XVI on 24 March 2006.

believes in contraception to prevent the spread of disease
is open to dialogue with other faiths
is not facing questions over any abuse scandals
is not facing questions over the handling of the Vatileaks scandal
would make the shortage of priests a priority

I'm for Mahoney the Big Baloney. As an Angelino, I think we should stick with guys like him that we know we can play ball with. He hasn't been arrested yet, and the FBI has dropped most of its investigations. He puts most of the funds that he steals into things like golden candlesticks and that new downtown cathedral they call the "Taj Mahoney" so the money is easy to keep track off...

Only took 5 votes so they are speculating that the front runner, Cardinal Scola, was selected.

I wonder why it's taking so long to announce who it is.

The archbishop of Buenos Aires is a Jesuit intellectual who travels by bus and has a practical approach to poverty: when he was appointed a cardinal, Bergoglio persuaded hundreds of Argentinians not to fly to Rome to celebrate with him but instead to give the money they would have spent on plane tickets to the poor. He was a fierce opponent of Argentinas decision to legalise gay marriage in 2010, arguing children need to have the right to be raised and educated by a father and a mother. He was created a cardinal by John Paul II on 21 February 2001.

That link I posted to "pick your Pope"...had some interesting and disputed information. Almost all the Cardinals listed were supposedly in favor of contraception to prevent the spread of disease. Over on NDNation some of the more knowledgable guys on stuff like that said that most if not all of the Cardinals would be suprised that they are listed as believing that.

A National Catholic Register portrait of the new pope, written 10 days ago paints a much more conservative picture of the new pope.

    Argentinian Cardinal

The delay in the announcement was caused when they couldn't find Michelle Obama to announce the winner.

did anyone else checkout the Seagul that was perched on top of the smoke stack about an hour before . He left just before the smoke came out. ..... One of the potraits of St Francis is he is surrounded by Seaguls... pretty stranged I was watching the stock channel and they had a small corner watching for the smoke and noticed the bird... I guess some of the new channels caught it to. Just saying...... First impressions I like him alot.

I like the choice. He finished second last time, so he's been at the top of the list for a long time. I'm curious to see what all the insiders have been so excited about. He's a quiet guy who stands his ground. I like that. He's also been elected to make changes and the church needs changes in the way it operates. Let's see what he can do.
