Last major of the year ladies. If anybody remembers, I was stationed in St. Louis from 90 to 93 training reservists. The president of Bellerive was a retired Marine Colonel that knew our CO. He asked him if he could get a cologuard for the opening ceremonies for the pro-am on weds.....in blues in August heat watching the Norman's and the Faldos of the golf world walk by looking at us like they're to focused to care.....then Fuzzy shows up. Played the course Monday morning with the championship pin placements....thought my 3 wood would go just as far as Nick Prices 4 iron on 18....there's a reason I had a career in the Corps.
They made an interesting point on Golf Channel, that this course has the most doglegs left by far of any course the Pro's play. So you need to draw the ball, which most of the top players these days don't do, they all seem to favor the Power fade for control. They pointed out a couple of guys with fades that fit the bill, both Lefty's. Phil and Bubba.
If you had Tiger in your pool...so sorry. Not a good start for him. Of course there is a lot of golf left to play!
Well the Tiger roar is back, just 1 behind right now. Justin Thomas short putting has really hurt. Kopeka staying steady.
Was watching a discussion on the golf channel the other day about whether or not Tiger should be a captain's pick for the Ryder Cup. I wasn't sure. After watching him today I think he'd be an asset to the team. He's been an assistant captain the past couple of cups and I think no one would resent his selection.
Today's finishing round was very entertaining. Some great scores out there under a very hot sun. I really enjoyed watching with so many in contention. Tiger really surprised me today. Played very well except for his troublesome drives off the tee.
The fact is, at this point Tiger is consistently better than 90% of the Tour. I get annoyed when the talking heads speculate that he will never win again , certainly not a Major. If that is so, what does that say about Spieth, McIlroy, Day, Thomas , Phil or any of the other big names who are routinely viewing the leaderboard through Wood's keyster? I find his comeback remarkable.
