I wonder if some serious sanctions are coming down? Or this story is just made up. I just don't get why you would want to leave a place like USC where players come to you? I guess time will tell if true or not. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the Seahawks' hire of USC's Pete Carroll to be their next head coach is "looming." According to the LA Times, the Seahawks interviewed Carroll earlier this week, and Mortensen says he has "multiple sources now confirming" that Carroll will replace Jim Mora. Seahawks beat writer Danny O'Neil reports Carroll is in the process of building a coaching staff, specifically targeting UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker. Carroll's offensive coordinator hire will have the biggest fantasy impact. Carroll is a defensive mind
Carroll is on his third OC and his second DC (at least.) This season seemed to reveal a dilution of talent in his staff. On the other hand, maybe he doesn't want any part of Jim Harbaugh anymore. His stock will never be higher. If he's going to try the pros again, now is the time.
btw, when people ask that question "I mean, Pete lives in LA.. Someone surely would have reported that he has been shacking up with a girlfriend, right?" after Charlie's interview has more people actually asking that question. It's LA's worst kept secret. Reggie Bush has bought off almost everyone and he has protected USC pretty well. Still, I keep thinking there might be something more coming... I don't see him being able to do the John McKay thing...
Interesting...very poorly timed move for USC. There are a number of highly ranked recruits who might reconsider the USC verbal. If he does leave, I wonder who will be their next coach. Kiffin....would he leave Tenn after 1 year? Sarkesian...would he leave UW after 1 year? Jeff Fisher...he's a longtime NFL coach, can't see him dumping the Titans Jack Del Rio...another longtime NFL coach. Gruden...his name will no doubt be bandied about The thing is what big name coach is going to want to jump into a program that is potentially going to have the NCAA hammer come down on it. They will think about Franchionne going to Alabama. Very interesting.
Gip. LOL To be honest, I'm let down by this.. I want to beat USC while they are USC. I don't want them to come back down to the **** level we've been playing at. The Poodle has a lot coming his way and I'd like to see the Irish hand it to him..
Beating them now is an empty victory. Losing their coaching staff and most of their team due to lack of eligibility, leaving early or transfer. I'm not certain if any are graduating though.
To.... <r>Me it is obvious he is getting out before the hammer comes down as there is just to much smoke surrounding to many players. Plus Paul Allen will pay him whatever he wants to set the guy up for life as if he wasn't already.<br/> I hope ND poaches a couple of his recruits so lets now see if Garrett fumbles the ball on a new hire like ND has done for years and other great programs like Texas, Florida, LSU and even Bama did before they "got it right" so this one will be huge considering the powerhouse SC is and can continue to be.<br/> <br/> By the way hang on as more is coming on the goofy Mike Leach. Wait till you hear this. <E></E></r>
Carroll <r>why is USC looking at 2nd and 3rd tier coaches to replace Carroll. shouldn't they be calling Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops etc?LOL <E></E></r>
Beating USC is never a hollow victory. During our 13 year streak, they had some pretty average teams and some pretty average coaching, I don't remember not enjoying any of the wins.
If in fact Pete is getting out of town just ahead of NCAA sanctions and if in fact USC will be hit hard then they will need a coach of unquestioned integrity to revamp the image of the program. There is such a coach who is available.
Hey, I hope the USC people are paying attention to these two fine coaches. Actually I do believe Fulmer was a good coach. I'm surprised we haven't seen much about him as vacancies have been filled. Willingham I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.
Ha! Nothing could be farther from the truth. I have never known a victory over USC, even during its darkest era (Larry Smith, Ted Tollner, etc.) to be anything but a highly pleasurable experience and cause for great celebration.
Actually, my grandfather is a graduate of USC. He was recruited to play football at ND by Elmer Layden and offered again upon his return from WWII. Instead, he chose to enroll at USC back in California and study engineering.. That being said, don't get me wrong fellas. Beating those bastards is never a bad thing. Its like Michigan, but sweeter.. I'd just wish we got our sh*t together before the Poodle skipped town.
