I have not had much time lately to add to the forum because the peach harvest has kicked into full gear but I hoped to share a minute of my day. We were racing to pick before a nasty front moved through and actually succeeded to pick the fruit and get it to the packing house as the rain started. Last week was nasty with day after day of high winds as it blew 30,000 lbs on the ground before we could harvest, farming would make the best of men drink heavy at times. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyxyhwuZ9Jo&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Still picking peaches.....Forget what day is what at this point as we hit the 30 days in a row mark today. I should have about 21 days left on my peach crop and before I complain too much I need to give thanks as I have had the only peaches moving in North America for a full 30 days. The others in my area are just starting this weekend and doing their best to move them before Georgia comes into play. Terry we started harvesting tangerines in late September and picked through more tangerines, grapefruit and early and late season oranges. We should finish up the peaches the first week of May but still are harvesting Valencias for the juice market into the middle of June and start it all over in September. Meanwhile I have my crew actively spraying on the upcoming crop for next season. I did make my bride happy though by not harvesting all day yesterday as I took her to see the Jersey Boys in Tampa at the Starz center. She got to rest up today as I went to work at 5:30 am to pick more peaches...Oh yeah we now have peaches at Winn Dixie, Sweetbay, Publix and Walmart retail stores in our area.... RC
I buy Florida Orange juice every week. Always buy the "not from concentrate" and if I can "lots of Pulp" as well!
:!: I don't know if I would have the stomach for that line of business. To invest all that money and time just to have the weather or winds wipe out tens of thousands of dollars would give me an ulcer and keep me up late.
