    Playing Ability Test.

PGA golf test to get into the Pro Golf Mngt Program. 36 Holes in 1 day. The objective is to Shoot a Target score for 36 holes.

The Target score yesterday was 155. 77-78 gets you through your test.

I fired a blazing 80 the 1st 18. Pissed off and wound up like a Marine can get, I set out to destroy the 2nd 18 and pass the test.

I destroyed it alright, I hit just 2 greens in regulation, and found the fairway off the tee box just 5 times all day.

However, and this is the part that will make GIPPER proud, I was up and down like a BIG DOG. I couldn't hit a bad chip or pitch. Even from the sand I was no more than 2 feet for par.

I'm standing on the 18th tee box knowing that I need a par to shoot 75. I pulled my tee shot into the rough. I needed to get a 7 iron up and over a tree about 10 yards in front of me, and then have enough spank on it to clear the bunker in front of the green that also had a false front. I got the 7 up and cleared the bunker, but the ball faded enough to catch the false front and rolled down about 15 feet. I took Suzy outa my bag (PW) and ran it up on the green 2 feet short. I marked my ball with my 1964 quarter, (The year I was born and Palmer won the Masters and Venturi won the U.S. Open) and read my putt.

Dead straight and below the hole. Piece of Cake right? When I first hit it I immediately **** my drawers. I pulled it. It caught the side of the cup did it's little loop de loop, and dropped in. 75 on the nose. 36 holes in one day, no beer, AZ heat and the pressure of the day.

I went home, drank a gallon of water and went to bed. Woke up this morning with a stiff and sore body, but mission accomplished none the less.

    Fairways and greens to all....

Way to go, Marine. It took grit and determination to do what you did. For you, meeting that challenge and conquering the odds truly was business as usual.

Good job! Don't they always say it's all about the short game? :)

BTW what is the Pro Golf Management Program?

    Thanks Sid,

    Doc,

it's the newly named Apprenticeship program through the PGA. It's a 5 level program that takes about 3 years to get through. After successful completion, you receive a A-1 rating for a Golf Pro. Not the Tour kind, the teaching and running of a golf facility kind. They also offer the program in college now. There were a lot of young men and woman from ASU and UA taking the test also. The only problem with that is they still have to complete the PGA program. They do however receive credits for what they did in school.

    Beautiful, just freakin beautiful.
Can you imagine what it's like for players in Q school or those playing at the Disney that need to cash in the top 20 to be exempt the following season.
Well done AJ. How's the real golfer in the family doing these days. Bet he busts it pretty far by now.

    Just great.
Is he still playing in competition?

You can be like me someday. My son Commish played Medinah yesterday and he's back in NYC catching a plane tonight to Rome for a wedding on Malta this weekend. How do I get his life?
