I thought this guy was a genius.....

They couldn't defend their division crown, and they won't repeat as AL or World Series champions.

On Monday night, the Chicago White Sox faded to black.

One season after they ended an 88-year title drought by storming through October, the White Sox will watch the postseason unfold this fall along with 22 other teams following a 14-1 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Monday night.

The real story is that due to the Cards lack of a bullpen and other wise bumbling ways that Astros have moved to within 2 1/2 games of them in the NL Central. While I find it highly unlikely that we can sustain our current drive and the Cards won't continue to lose like they have recently....still it apparently isn't over till it's ovah!

    Terry..

<t>Lets be honest we ought to both be embarrassed at our teams. I know I am. The Astros are just now a .500 club. Cards may not win another game they are so bad right now. Pitiful baseball but I love the sport.</t>

It would certainly be incredible if the Astros bumbled through the season and lucked into the playoffs because they sucked less than the Cards.

George, what is your problem with the White Sox and Ozzie Guillen?

I am not anti White Sox. I am anti Ozzie. He came in, caught lightning in a bottle and immediately it was like he invented the game. He has more theatrics than anymanager I've ever seen including Bobby Valentine. He yells at opposing batters while they are in the box and screams at opposing managers dugout to dugout.

Now he's sitting next to me on the couch watching the playoffs, a future trivia question.

    Adios muchacho!

George, I'm not sure how you formed your perception of him. I think it has something to do with being in the vicinity of NYC and having the news from the rest of the country distorted as it passes over the Pocono and Allegheny mountains.

Yes, he is a lightning rod. Yes, he occasionally says things he shouldn't have. In other words, a composite of A-rod, Giambi, and Sheffield, right? Yes, he is passionate and manages as if he was still playing the game. Don't think for a New York minute that his managing style was not a major factor in their WS championship run last year. This year, for a team whose SP staff sucked even worse than the Yankees, the Sox have only 7 less victories than the Bombers........and that's playing in the AL central, which this year makes the AL East look like AAA ball. Both of the teams from the AL central who are going to the playoffs have records exactly equal to the Yankees as of last night, so it's not as if the Sox fell flat on their face.......or lost 4 games in a row in a best-of-7 series after having a 3-0 lead.

How did the AL Central teams do against the Yankees this year? In my opinion, Ozzie became bigger than his team, stealing the spotlight and diverting attention.

I felt like it shouldn't give me much satisfaction that the Indians eliminated the Sox this year, a year in which Cleveland underperformed so terribly.

Then I saw the picture in the paper of the Cleveland fans giving the "choke" sign to Ozzie, and remembered how he made the same gesture last year as the Sox eliminated the Tribe...and it suddenly felt very satisfying.

What ever happened to the pitcher that the Sox send down because he wouldn't throw at someone when told to by Ozzie?
