As long as I've spouted off on two topics and locked them tonight I'm going to say something else. It seems that if we want a topic to get a lot of responses and posts the best way to do it is to insult someone or someones program. Then we get a lot of replies. However I remind you of the Skybox Motto [Welcome to The Skybox, an island community where folks from *all* colleges can partake of meaningful and intelligent conversation related to college sports. It's a members-only escape from the madness and flames plaguing today's message boards on the web![/quote] I guess I don't learn that many of us don't really want to follow this. We can have lots of comments to a topic about how a coach is a bad guy for whatever reason even when we don't have all the facts. We can insult other teams coaches, the one I took offense to was the Topic about Moody probably transferring to Florida from USC. However silly me, I post three topics with what at least I considered positive, or realistic, articles about Randy Shannon, the new Miami coach, the Orange Bowl possibly being torn down and a trend to innovation by college coaches. Guess what, no response but we can sure get the responses if we insult the other guys team and coach. What I did tonight was without approval of the other two moderators and believe me if they don't agree I'll know. But it sure seems to me we could discuss a lot more positive things. Pardon the rant, I'm going to bed. Gator Bill
I hope you noticed Bill that I am willing to give Tenn the benefit of the doubt until details come out...which I think they will eventually. That is unlike some here on the Marcus Thomas case who was actually dealt with pretty harshly by Meyer in the long run.
Bill, I have no problem with your actions. I do want to say that MCG was showing much more respect than Tailback. ... and GaterzFan simply expressed his tolerance for illegal drugs. Neither GaterzFan nor MCG were pointing a finger of accusation. I am very disappointed in Tailback. I do not know what happened to him. He came onto the Skybox expressing remorse for his actions on Prodigy. As soon as he was away from the other two members of the “Georgia trio”, he was one of the more respectful members here. Something changed. It was about the time that he had a medical problem. I don’t know what caused the change and don’t think it really matters. But something changed him and it was definitely for the worse. Thanks for locking that topic. I probably should have but just didn’t. People have to realize that details of issues like this may never be released to anyone without a “need to know.” That need does not include curiosity. To give everyone an example that they may understand: Cindy and I recently ran a medical call. It was called out as a possible cardiac problem. We arrived on scene and began trying to determine what was wrong. After being in the house for almost 10 minutes, cardiac was ruled out. Her symptoms pointed to a possibility of a highly contagious disease. The patient was transported to the nearest ER. We called our EMS. The only thing they could legally tell us is that the disease we were concerned with was ruled out. They could tell us that ONLY because we have a need to know. That need is to keep us from infecting others if we were indeed exposed. That need was even greater due to the fact that I am scheduled to give blood on Tuesday before we leave on Wednesday. I am O+ and Cindy is O-. We have blood that is in great demand… but not if there is a chance it is tainted. As medical providers, we are only given information on a need to know basis. It is ridiculous for anyone to think that their need to satisfy curiosity is any higher on the need to know scale.
Point of clarification for Tom .... I don't have a problem with football players partaking of ONE drug the federal government has deemed to be illegal - marijuana and one that it deems to be legal - alcohol. I don't recall supporting the use of any other "illegal substace" by any person - college athlete or not. Bill, I regularly evaluate my position concerning the use of marijuana and alcohol by any person and it has not changed. Atkins death was tragic but I don't believe for one minute it was the result of smoking marijuana. Again, JHMO. We agree to disagree.
Don't worry guys, once the season starts we'll have some real material to discuss, and this kind of stuff will die down. 5 days to the start of College football!!
You know all through my 24 year Navy career, leaders were advised to criticize in private and praise in public. I admire the Coach who follows that credo. The coach has primary responsibility to his players and his employer. I don't think his responsibility to the fans includes explaining every decision he makes about his team especially when it comes to medical or disciplinary actions.
KP....that kind of "coaching" will bring the NCAA calling at some point. Not much is held in private these days at Collegiate Sports programs.
Well, FWIW, Scout is reporting that he'll transfer to UF. http://florida.scout.com/a.z?s=168&p=2&c=672478 I'm a bit surprised by the decision. WRT the fans getting into "the business" of coaches and payers, we can thank an out-of-control "sports entertainment media" for much of the "problem". Of course, the WWW has played a rather significant part, too!!
Gaterz, when I locked the topic last night it was because it was turning into a pissing match. We do not mind if news is posted and treated as news.
Bill I sort of thought that when I surfed into the site this AM. I just wanted to clarifiy my opinion on use of illegal "drug" versus "drugs". And with regard to our difference on the matter, I respect your position. Now, WRT Moody ... were you surprised by his decision? And, do you have a "feel' as to whether it's a good move or not for UF to embrace his transfer? I'm just curious as to what Gator fans think and don't believe there's a right/wrong position on Moody.
Gunner Martin chiming in, You guys have spent the hole frickin' summer pissing, moaning and propagandizing......(is that a word BTW?)....anyway, CFB starts in 5-days, St. Louis Cards are 2 games out and I'm hitting my 9-Iron 155 with no effort. And for those that still have something to get outa their system, NEBRASKA has a huge regional coverage this Saturday so you folks that think your team is a dynasty, unlike the Godzilla version they call NEBRASKA, can watch and you can analyze the game and give me your thoughts. Remember, I'm a very sensitive fragile individual who has a paper ass and can only take so much criticism..... 8)
<sweating> You were right, AJ. It's a race, and right now the Cards have all the momentum. Cubs vs. Brewers this week. Should be mighty interesting.
I haven't finished my handicapping yet Double T....besides, I think Stu's Cat is the Bookmaking Antichrist of this board....it's a loaded game.
Holy frickin' Cow..I just saw this!! Did you see K.J. Choi hit a 6 iron on that 164yd par 3? I thought what the hey, that's what I'd hit...of course I'd take a mighty swing. Terry
I'm tellin' ya Doc, my head pro has me playing great golf. Gipper would never recognize me... He's (Jim Kirwan) a huge believer in the hands. The way you place them on the club, the way you square them up and get them through the striking zone and making sure the right hand......well, if you want to know the rest, I have good rates to offer you.... BTW, I've got a Cleveland 13 degree 3 wood that I can rip about 250-260 off the Tee. Works great on these retirement courses and keeps the ball in play. My driver is my Achilles heel....me and Phil.
