Sitting in the Admirals club waiting on the plane to start boarding for LAX. I have no earthly idea what my internet connection will be like. Taichung is not as westernized as Tainan City or Taipei. I will be arriving at the Taipei airport at 9 a.m. central US time Sunday morning (10 p.m. local time). We stay in Taipei that night and take the high speed train to Taichung on Monday morning. I will be back in the UD on Friday 27-Aug. Everyone make sure to keep an eye on the Jaskewicz contest and make your picks when they become available.
In LAX right now. Admirals Club right across from my arrival gate. I don't know how much fun I'm going to have. I have to take a class on the 24th, co-teach it on the 25th, and then teach it solo on the 26th. Then I get to come back through Santa Clara and teach it again.
Was close again today. I flew into LAX arriving at 15:15 but had to fly out to San Jose boarding at 17:45. That's plenty of time, right? Nope. On international flights, you arrive at Tom Bradley terminal, clear customs, recheck your bags, then run to terminal 4 and clear security there. Once you get through security, you have to run down to gate 44 which is not a gate at all. It is the place you catch a shuttle to the actual gate 44 a-f out on the tarmac. Once I got to the actual gate, I had 10 minutes left before they closed the door. I was so concerned about getting to the plane, I forgot to go to the money exchange to convert about $4000 Taiwanese dollars back to US currency. Sounds like a lot but is actually about $125 US. Going to have to find somewhere here in silicon valley to get that done.
... oh, an by the way. I have a word of advice that should have been obvious to me. When you have a 12 hour flight, don't sleep 8 hours of that flight and expect to sleep that night. :? :? :?
