    The SEC mulling over limiting signing classes to 25 like the rest of the college football world has been.. Translation on that is they will only sign 28 instead of 32 or 35 or whatever they have been doing recently. That 25 a year stuff only applies to every other conference right? LOL!

    Of course they are still just mulling this over. No rush here.

    To top it off Steve Spurrier wants to pay about 70 players 300$ a game out of the coaches pocket. :)
    I wonder how he'll explain that to the other players on scholarship who won't get any money?

    The Spurrier Plan

    You know Tim I started a topic with a link to what you are talking about.

    Now about your caustic comment about applying to every other conference. Just FYI it only applies to other conferences if they vote it in as a conference rule. It is not an NCAA rule.

    Thought you might find that interesting.

    So I guess other conferences should start looking into changing their rules so they can over sign every year too? <br/>
    <br/>
    Come on... the SEC wants to brag about how they are the Primo conference<br/>
    every year. When you start out with more players on your squad every year than everyone else and those you can't use you say sorry, ya gotta go elsewhere...geez, give me a break. Play by the same rules everyone else does</r>

    So Tim, you position is basically this.

    The overall control of College Football is the NCAA. The NCAA passes the rules that the colleges are to live by. However individual conferences are allowed to pas rules that are stricter. Some do and some don't. So in this case some conferences pass different rules about how scholarships are passed out and the SEC chooses to stick by the NCAA rules.

    But your position seems to be that the SEC needs to conform to the rules that some other conferences passe. That's a pretty slippery slope.

    Did you know that the SEC requires one more math course than the Big 12? There was a Ju Co linebacker already in Gainesville and enrolled during the Zook administration. However he was short the math course that the SEC required and couldn't play football, so he left and went to Oklahoma and played at a good level for two years.

    I guess by your logic we should start a campaign to make all the conferences require the same math course.

    Then of course there is the IVY league, if we all went by there rules we would have a different game.

    Your logic falls way short.

    That is not to say that perhaps the NCAA might want to tighten up, but your expectations for the SEC seem to be tainted by your obvious bias.

    Did I make a mistake in my logic?

    No mistake. Ivy League doesn't give football scholarships at all do they? I guess that is the ultimate extension of this argument. :?

    Yeah, it's a pretty slippery slope to play by the rules everyone else does. I'm pretty sure if the SEC had to abide by the rules of other conferences there would only be 4 or 5 teams that could field a team. <br/>
    <br/>
    Come on, we all see it every year. 33, 34, 35 it's like a free for all with some SEC schools to see how many they can sign. then they sort it out later as to whether they qualify academically.(and we all know those standards aren't to high now are they?) <br/>
    <br/>
    It's all right though. We expect it from the SEC. I'm just making an observation. Sorry if I stepped on your toes. [/code]</r>

    I'm sorry, but you just get bent out of shape to easy. It's just easier to recruit in the SEC than anywhere else. Admit it. It a plus for you guys. Throw in the fact that you can sign more than anyone else every year and it's great right?...Geez. Enjoy the advantage while you have it. If the NCAA says it's O.K. then have at it.</r>

    You know Tim it has to be intentional when you can not even admit that the conferences that have limited themselves have put self imposed restrictions. Why not just go aal the way and impose Ivy League rules?

    Also, the logic of having one additional math course seems to have flown right over your head also. :roll:

    I guess what I will just say at this point is one that it is just to damn bad if other conferences have self imposed restrictions, and that your natural bias against the SEC gets in the way of clear thinking.

    Oh no, it's you that doesn't understand I'm not impressed by the math standards of Big 12 schools so telling me he needed one more than them just doesn't impress me. Get it? <E>:roll:</E> <E>:roll:</E> <E>:roll:</E><br/>

    My natural bias towards the SEC? Would that be the same as my bias against the PAC 10, or ACC or BIG 10 etc, etc, etc? I don't have any particular like for any of them. <br/>
    <br/>
    No it's not my bias, it's your love of the SEC that not only gets in your way of clear thinking but makes you blind to a fault. <br/>
    <br/>
    If you don't have a problem with the way they do things in the SEC then fine. Some of us do and thoroughly enjoy rooting against the SEC every chance we get.</r>

    Grayshirting and early enrollment don't hurt the student or the educational process. I think the key is if the coach is upfront with the student about his position, and except for one or two isolated instances, that is the case, of course if you just enjoy rooting against the SEC...... :?

    Tim, the Gators do not over sign so I have no reason to defend it other than the irrational approach taken by some like you that do not seem to comprehend that the other conferences imposed the differences on themselves.

    As far as you rooting against the SEC, who cares? It is consistent with my expectations.

    Like you I used to irrationally root against Notre Dame, however thru the years due to Terry O. and other Notre Dame fans here I learned an appreciation for Notre Dame and There traditions and surprised myself by rooting for them.

    That is the type thing that can happen if you keep an open mind.

    Now where did I say <B><s></s>Florida <e></e></B>was over signing? <br/>

    The only thing I can comprehend about any other conference is they still have a little bit of integrity they would like to keep.<br/>

    Lastly Bill, we're talking NCAA football here. Please spare me the personal insults. I don't think I made in personal comments about you.</r>

    Tim, I just thought I would make clear to you that I have not let what would be best for the Gators does not cloud my thinking as to the way things should be handled.

    I am sorry you take it as a personal insult. However I am talking football and the right way to go about things and that is not to expect one conference to pattern themselves ayer another just because of your personal opinion. That is just not logical.

    The SEC is going to vote on this and the well may make some changes, and if so I will support them and think it will help the Gators in the long run. However the bigger issue of doing it because others do it that way just does not make sense and I think you know that.

    I think a better analogy for this discussion is "if everyone else decides to stop in the middle of the block, does that mean it's wrong to continue to the stop sign at the intersection?" :?
