So watching the opening ceremony, sort of fires me up. I'm a little out of touch with Olympic Hockey, who is our team? College Hockey is full blast and the NHL is as well. Nice to see the TV voice of ND football leading the way, Mike Tirico, and I am glad to see Katie Couric instead of Megan Kelly
Irish flag bearer is a snowboarder from San Diego... Seamus O'Connor... hmm could he be related to our O'Connor clan?
Too politicized. Vonn says she represents the US, not Donald Trump. Two gay athletes bashing Mike Pence. A couple more saying that they would refuse an invitation to the White House. Plus a couple of sexual harassment claims between athletes and all this before the opening ceremony.
The games have had their political moments going back a long time, and a couple of Irish Americans are to blame for it. https://www.sbnation.com/lookit/201...es-flag-bearer-not-dipping-the-flag-explained
I'm pretty interested in the Olympics and enjoyed the opening ceremony. But the Political stuff George referred to turns me off. Linsey Vonn in particular. Having said that I intend to enjoy the Olympics. I also found the virtual reality stuff interesting. I am not sure just what was virtual and what wasn't though. Interesting question about the Hockey Team.
Thanks for that link Bill. I see that the coach is the Univ of Wisconsin Coach, Is he working 2 jobs? Like Krebs I'm not very supportive of the athletes who want to turn this into a political forum for their individual views. Hopefully that will die down as the competition proceeds.
Surprised that there hasn't been some protest of an Olympic event that involves a rifle and real bullets. Maybe the anti-gun lobby isn't paying attention.
re: Seamus O'Connor "Seamus" actually means "James," but no we're not related. I'm much better looking than him... Check out America's two-man bobsled team. One of those bobsledders lives in Huntington Beach. He's a graduate of Mater Dei HS, and he's currently a student at UCLA... One of the women snowboarders on Team USA is local hero Maddie Mastro. She lives and trains on Mt. Baldy, which overlooks our Mojave Desert towns. Every school here has a snowboard club. It's a big deal for desert kids... 8)
It might seem weird but when you're in the IE of Southern California, you're like 30 to 45 minutes from multiple ski resorts with quite a few families holding cabins up in the woods that they will stay in almost every weekend.
Watched the women's Slope Style last night, one of the requirements for the sport must be a certain level of hotness. Because those girls were all pretty hot.
Reading the predictions for the Mens Hockey... Looks like the OAR team is considered the favorite, with the Canadians, Swedes and the Finns the other contending teams. No USA.
Cloie Kim wins the women's half-pipe, and at the end when she looks at the Chinese girl who finished 2nd while wrapping herself in old glory.... Where's your flag?
Sean White! Talk about rising to the occasion! 1 run for Gold and he nailed it He's no longer the Flying Tomato, but the Champion. Oldest competitor in the half pipe
That was an amazing run. The Japanese boarder had really put him in a hole after the 2nd run. He had to come up nearly perfect and delivered.
:!:   What a career for Sean White! From the long-haired kid who was just naturally better than the whole world to the 31 year-old man who worked years to return to glory. Wow!
Well this morning the news on Sean White is less about his Olympic performance and more about a sexual harassment lawsuit that was filed in 2016 and settled out of court in 2017.
