There you have it folks. I don't know what else the Longhorns could have done except of course go undefeated. I'm not sure what other method you could use to break a 3 way tie either. I guess head to head means something only if you want it to mean something. 1. Alabama 2. Oklahoma 3. Texas 4. Florida 5. USC 6. Utah 7. Texas Tech 8. Penn State 9. Boise State 10. Ohio State This pretty much seals up the bowls. BCS Bama/UF winner vs OU Orange ACC champ vs Big East Champ Sugar Bama/UF loser vs Utah Fiesta Texas vs Ohio State or Boise State ( not likely though) Rose USC vs Penn State
Terry, there are still quite a few people who feel like that if the Gators beat Bama that Texas may edge them out and get a rematch with Oklahoma. Of course MCG isn't one of them, but the Gators lag so much in the computer polls it may be difficult for us even if we win. I am shocked that Oklahoma passed Texas. You had a lead in the computer polls but they passed you after yesterday. Oh well we will know for sure in a week.
I actually hope that doesn't happen Bill. What I would rather happen is that Missouri beats OU in an upset and Texas goes to the NC game. I know a lot of people will be upset that Texas isn't the B12 conference champion, but they would be worthy of playing in the game. If Missouri beats OU, and Alabama beats UF, I wonder if USC could have enough juice to jump up to the BCS Game?
This is a crime. I bet if Texas played Oklahoma on a neutral field that they'd win by 10......oh wait, they did. So how did Texas fall behind OK? After a brutal stretch of their schedule they lost to TT on the road on the last play of the game. There are a lot of stupid or dishonest assistant coaches out their filling out ballots for their poll. Biggest poll theft in a decade.
I've never been a fan of the computers and this kind of validates my opinion. Texas should be in the Big 12 Championship and the Gators should be ranked higher than they are. On another note the Gators are 8.5 point favorites over Alabama. Go figure.
This system sucks ass and sadly people don't rail against it until it effects their team. I guess if this fraud goes on long enough, we'll have enough people upset.
Corey, I don't like the system but can't change it. I was ticked when USC was left out a few years ago and was happy when the AP voters stuck to their guns and made them co champions. I've always recognized USC and LSU as co champs. This year could be a year when something similar happens. I also have to admit that USC comes out on the short end for some reason. I guess it's because of the conference I don't know. It seems that if they are unbeaten they make it, but with a loss, or two as last year, they find themselves on the outside looking in. The problem is that it's the only system we have. My hope for my Gators this year is just that we keep winning, if we get left out of the BCS Championship game I wish for two things. The first of course is what I said earlier, we get the AP. The second thing I hope for is that we play Utah in a bowl game. The @$%!@ computers have us behind Utah but not any of the other top three behind them. I have nothing against Utah, but if we win out and the computers leave us out I would like nothing better than to be able to show how inaccurate they are. I know you probably don't agree with at least part of this but hey you always have strong opinions. Nothing wrong with that by the way. Hey any news on the book?
Before I start... the system sucks As I asked before... why is it outrageous that OU is going, and not Texas when Tech beat the Longhorns? In this type of three way tie, the head to head win is meaningless. Or is it really that Tech should be pissed? I mean if the Longhorns are the best, and Tech beat them...
Seriously? Tech won on the last play of the game after the OT frosh DB dropped a sure interception that would have won the game. Texas lost to them after playing Mizzu, Ok St. and OK the 3 weeks before. 4 straight weeks of tough games. OK lost to UT on a neutral field by 10. Tech barely beat UT at home and got clobbered by OK on the road. They're not even up for consideration. It comes down to UT and OK and that was decided back in Oct.
Wrong gip, it's a THREE WAY TIE. No matter how close this or that was, the bottom line is OU, Texas and Tech are all EQUAL on the W/L ledger. There should be no style points in a tie breaker. With the current system there certainly are, but apparently not the ones a lot of people wanted. How can you be upset at the current system, if you are so fast to throw out Tech because of "barely" winning, or getting blown out late? Sorry, but it's all the same. How can a sure interception be dropped? It either IS an interception or it's not... It's all a beauty contest, and a lot of people don't like who the judges picked. Don't hate the playa, hate the game. For the record, I want a playoff. Then no one is having this discussion.
It's hard not to believe that we deserved to go to the B12 championship game as much if not more than the Sooners. I however don't have a method of determing who goes in this case that is objective and not subjective.
Apparently if this occurred in the SEC a different formula is used. The lower ranked team (in this case TT) is removed from the equation and the head to head contest among the other 2 (assuming they are withing 5 places in the BCS) is the representative. Under that system UT would go. This morning the Big 12 Comish announced that they are going to reevaluated their tiebreaker. Gee why. It's perfect. How can they question the current system?
Notre Dame fans who remember 1993 (Jan. 1994 bowl games) understand what's happening. Not exactly the same but very similar circumstances in terms of controlling your own destiny vs. slipping up and leaving the decision to others.
My point was (I'm right with Terry) there isn't really an equitable way to determine a winner in a 3-way tie. The SEC way is hardly better. It still relies on subjective info (rankings) to get to the top 2.
Tossing out the lowest ranked team and then using head to head seems more logical than strictly taking the highest ranked team.
Agreed Corey. My question is what's going to happen if Missouri pulls the upset..... There will be a big outcry for Texas to get into the NC game despite not winning their conference which has always been a reason not to let a team in. Does USC get in if that scenario plays out?? I think so!
Aquila, I agree. The only disagreement you will ever see between Scott and I is usually over who hates the BCS more Although I find it unlikely, I will be pulling for Missouri to shock the world and throw this thing into total chaos. A national title game between a Texas who didn't win their conference and a Florida who lost at home 2 days later than USC most certainly has its flaws. Now I'd like to note to both Texas and Gator fans that I am not 'dissing' either of your teams, I'm just showing that a serious case could be made against each of their teams. Then there is still the matter of 3 teams sitting their unbeaten and 2 of them won't even get to play in a BCS game at all, let alone have a shot at the NC game. For full disclosure though, I am pulling for my Bruins to take down USC and ruin their year
Now I'm in a quandry... pulling for chaos (which I always do!) means I have to hope for the Horns to make the champ game... ugh! This would have been an interesting year for an 8 team playoff. Lots of arguments as to who should be in. Do you take the league champions even though some probably aren't very good (ACC/Big East) or would it be wide open? Filling 5 slots right off the bat would be: Bama, Florida, USC, Texas, and OU. Utah and Boise probably get nods for their undefeated seasons, and recent success. I think Ball St would still be left out, just because of the lack of sched. Who would be your 8th entry?? Tech? Maybe, but there would be screaming from the ACC if they were left out. Probably from the Big East too... Oh well... fun to dream.
