    8) Oklahoma is running at full speed....it has great backs.....fabulous D......great team speed....and a young QB that ate up Murray State last week.......and to boot they are ranked 8th in the nation in a weak conference.

Here comes Miami to visit.....with an unknown factor at O-line....two young RBs....and a QB who threw more INTs than TDs last season....then a new coach in only his second game as a head coach. Miami is not ranked for the first time in a very long spell.

Hmmmm? What better time for Okla to capitalize on a team that is only running at 3/4 throttle.

It should be a Sooner blowout

    Yet, somehow........I believe !!!

It'll be a Sooner blowout, they will show no mercy..Stoops takes the same approach that his mentor Steve Spurrier took...punting is overated. :) Plus he's got a monkey called Boise State on his back and another Gorilla in Burnt Orange as well. He's going to puff and posture and beat your ass as bad as he can!!!

 Sooner Blowout....bring it on !!!! I haven't seen the line yet but it should be a 20 point favorite for Stoops.

 GAME: Miami (Fla.) at Oklahoma
    TIME: 12:00 P.M. EST
    VENUE: Memorial Stadium

Despite Oklahoma winning by 69 points last week, coach Bob Stoops says the second halves of games tend to give him sleepless nights. A matchup against a new-look Miami team could leave him bleary-eyed.

On Saturday, the fifth-ranked Sooners face the Hurricanes, who are coming off a solid performance in new coach Randy Shannon's debut.

With all facets of their offense clicking last Saturday, Oklahoma (1-0) routed North Texas 79-10, and Stoops could find little that was negative as his team piled up 668 yards of offense.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Sam Bradford was 21-of-23 for 363 yards with three touchdowns, and tied the school record with 18 consecutive completions in his first career start. Freshman running back DeMarco Murray scored five touchdowns, one shy of the school record, and receivers Malcolm Kelly and Juaquin Iglesias became the fourth duo in school history to have more than 100 receiving yards in the same game.

"I was pleased with the overall clean and solid play, really in all parts of our game," Stoops said.

That also was a departure from Oklahoma's recent struggles in season openers. Last year, they beat Alabama-Birmingham by just seven points and were upset by Texas Christian in 2005.

Stoops also was pleased by the continued focus from his team, which didn't let up even after leading 49-0 at halftime.

"We've had some games where we've had lopsided wins, we've gotten ahead in the second half, and the second half gives me nightmares," Stoops said. "I go home just totally aggravated, because guys get in late, lose their focus (and) have penalties. Their intensity wanes a little and you break down in coverage or you miss an adjustment."

After rolling over an opponent from the lightly regarded Sun Belt Conference, two Sooners said they were up for the challenge presented by Miami - a five-time national champion.

"The bigger the challenge, the bigger the opportunity," center Jon Cooper said.

Added Iglesias, "You dream about playing against Miami."

This will be the first time Oklahoma will face Miami (1-0) since three memorable meetings in the 1980s. Though Miami won 27-14 in 1985, the Sooners went on to win the national championship.

Top-ranked Miami met then-No. 2 Oklahoma in 1986, and got four touchdown passes from Vinny Testaverde in a 28-16 win. With the national championship on the line in 1987, Miami beat Oklahoma 20-14 in the Orange Bowl.

Shannon, the Hurricanes' former defensive coordinator who took over for Larry Coker following a 7-6 record last year, has been a proponent of changing the school's image - especially after last season's brawl with Florida International that resulted in 13 ejections from both teams.

"We're going to have pride in going out on the field," Shannon said. "We're going to have pride in doing things the right way. When people take pride in something, they're going to work to do it the right way all the time."

Miami's defense held Marshall to 51 rushing yards, recorded six sacks and had four interceptions in a 31-3 victory last Saturday. Freshman Graig Cooper rushed for 116 yards and Javarris James ran for 99 yards and two scores as the 'Canes had 260 yards on the ground.

James was Miami's leading rusher with 802 yards as a freshman last season, but seems happy to share the spotlight with Cooper.

"It definitely takes a lot of pressure off," James said. "Usually in the game when you get tired or something you have to fight through it, but I know if I get tired and I can't give 100 percent on the play, this guy is going to come in and do the same - or probably better. Actually, I'm glad he came here."

Kirby Freeman, who beat out Kyle Wright to start at quarterback, struggled in his debut, going only 9-of-21 for 81 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Miami has lost its last two road openers, falling to Florida State in 2005 and Louisville last year.

"You can get Gatorade dumped on your head. You can have everybody in Miami patting you on the shoulder," Shannon said. "But you know what? That's never going to help you win the game next week."

    All the foolishness..

<t>aside to me its' an interesting matchup to watch and I will while getting ready to see if the Irish have a pulse after the GT debacle.<br/>
I noticed the Miami passing game was AWOL in the opener. To have any chance versus the Sooners they must find one before Saturday.<br/>
The young kid Bradford for OU is a good looking athlete that is very accurate and has almost 4.0 smarts to run their offense plus they get the RB Patrick back this week.<br/>

    OU by 10+ IMO.</t>

I will record it and watch with some interest since we travel to sunny Miami in 2 weeks.

I'm most interested in seeing if Miami's offense is as bad as our defense.

Should make for an interesting equation:

    Stoppable Force meets Moveable Object...

To tell the truth from a Texas fan standpoint a blowout of Miami would raise some concerns about our chances in the Red River War game with OU. But as hard as I find it to root for OU, I find it even harder to root for Miami. So possilby an ugly mistake filled jr high looking game that ends 7-0 in somebody's favor would be best.

    8) Miami allowed Marshall 52 yds rushing, 3 pts, got six sacks and four turnovers.......they ain't exactly pushovers like North Texas

We got 260 yds rushing ....same as OU did...but a measly 87 passing with three or four dropped passes....thats our achilles heel

 8) Canes hope a victory over Sooners will resurrect program

At the end of Miami's season-opening 31-3 victory over Marshall on Saturday, many of the 39,830 fans in the Orange Bowl serenaded the Hurricanes' first-year head coach by chanting his name.

    Richard C. Lewis/Icon SMI

Oklahoma will prove to a big challenge for Miami and coach Randy Shannon.

    "Ran-dy Shan-non, Ran-dy Shan-non," they sang in cadence.

That was a whole lot nicer than what the home fans were yelling at Larry Coker last season as the Hurricanes struggled through a disappointing and turbulent 7-6 campaign that ended up costing Coker his job despite a résumé that included a 53-9 record and a national championship prior to last season.

Shannon, the second black head coach in the history of ACC football, had a painless debut. The Hurricanes' suffocating defense registered six sacks and four interceptions while the tailback tandem of sophomore Javarris James and freshman Graig Cooper combined for 215 yards on 26 carries, and Miami snapped a two-game losing streak in season openers. Neither the Hurricanes, nor Shannon, will have it so easy on Saturday when they make their first trip to Norman, Okla., since 1985 to play the fifth-ranked Sooners, who opened 2007 with a 79-10 thumping of North Texas (ABC, noon ET).

The oddsmakers don't give Miami much of a chance; Oklahoma is a double-digit favorite. But the Hurricanes' impressive performance against Marshall has provided some hope in Coral Gables that Shannon might be capable of quickly turning around the football program's fortunes.

This is what we live for. It's a big game. It's top 10. We might not be ranked, but that's all on paper. We're going to play like we're ranked.
    Middle linebacker Tavares Gooden

On Nov. 12, 2005, the Hurricanes were ranked No. 3 with an 8-1 record that included a dominating 27-7 victory over then-third-ranked Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.

Since then, Miami has gone 10-9 and hasn't been ranked in either poll for nearly a year.

An upset win in Norman this weekend likely would propel Miami back into the rankings and, according to senior center John Rochford, "definitely send a statement out to the rest of the country that the Hurricanes are for real this year."

But Shannon, a linebacker for the Miami team that defeated Oklahoma in the 1987 national championship game, insists that Saturday's game is no more important than any other on the Hurricanes' regular-season schedule.

Asked if a victory over Oklahoma could put Miami back on the national map, Shannon responded, "I don't know we've ever been off the map. I don't worry about those things. We just have to go out and play this Saturday, and whatever happens, happens. If we win, great. We still have another 10 games left to play. So it's not a one-game season for us."

Miami's history is filled with games in which the Hurricanes were given little chance to win and pulled off upset victories. In 1985, an unranked Jimmy Johnson-coached Miami team traveled to Oklahoma to play the third-ranked Sooners. The Hurricanes came away with a shocking 27-14 win.

    Richard C. Lewis/Icon SMI

Kirby Freeman will need to be sharp against the Sooners' D.

"This is what we live for," said Miami middle linebacker Tavares Gooden. "It's a big game. It's top 10. We might not be ranked, but that's all on paper. We're going to play like we're ranked. I know nobody gives us a chance. But my coach, Randy Shannon, says we have a chance to win this game, and I believe in him."

Belief in the Hurricanes' offense may be a little harder to come by.

While the offensive line appears to be improved and the combination of James and Cooper could turn out to be one of Miami's best ever, questions about the team's passing game remain.

Against Marshall, the Hurricanes generated only 81 yards of passing offense, with quarterback Kirby Freeman connecting on only 9 of 21 passes. Not that Freeman got much help. Miami's receivers dropped at least four passes, and only senior Lance Leggett had more than one reception.

Three of Miami's four touchdowns against Marshall followed interceptions deep in Marshall territory that resulted in drives of 1, 24 and 29 yards.

Freeman, a junior, won the quarterback job over senior Kyle Wright in a battle that began in spring practice and wasn't completed until Shannon named the starter four days before the Marshall game. Freeman has now started five straight games for the Hurricanes dating back to last season, but his combined numbers are modest (58-of-111 for 826 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions).

Despite Freeman's lack of production in the opener, Shannon has all but ruled out the possibility that Wright, who started 21 consecutive games before being sidelined last season by a broken thumb, will play anything but an emergency role against Oklahoma.

"I'm not worried about Kyle right now," Shannon said Tuesday. "We've still got Kirby Freeman. Kirby's our guy. If something happens to go wrong, a shoe comes off Kirby Freeman and we need to go in and get another shoestring, then Kyle will go in until Kirby comes back."

Against Oklahoma, the Hurricanes are faced with playing a ranked team on the road, which has not been a recipe for success lately.

Since defeating No. 3 Virginia Tech at Blacksburg in 2005, Miami has lost five consecutive games to ranked teams on the road or at a neutral site. Last season, the Hurricanes were 1-4 away from the Orange Bowl, with the lone victory coming in a down-to-the-wire struggle with winless Duke in Durham, N.C.

"We really need a good road win," said junior cornerback Randy Phillips. "It will helps some guys with confidence."

Some Miami players aren't having any problem with their confidence. Asked this week what kind of statement Miami would make by beating Oklahoma, senior guard Derrick Morse responded, "I think it's going to be a huge statement when we win."

I don't see a blow out either, but I just can't figure out how UM will score more than 9 or so...

Looks like a defensive battle to me. (Which means offensive fireworks for sure!)

I think if Miami gets off to a fast start they might have a chance. But if they don't its going to be a long afternoon for the Canes.

Getting close to game time. I don't know what to expect either.

What I do know is that so far I'm a fan of Randy Shannon.
