With the announcement that President Trump will tax importation from Mexico by 20% we just made a killing... Okay this is the boring stuff...I farm for a living as many if not all know (with my big mouth everyone knows). I took a gamble 18 months ago to plant Persian Limes (think a sliver in the Corona). Understand we are 150 miles north of where they grow in very small acreage in South Florida. It's risky but with our other disease issues I researched the market and thought it a worthy risk. So with Trumps announcement of a 20% tax to import from Mexico my lime experiment just increased by 20%. 99% of all limes consumed in North America are from Mexico because our lovely government pushed and burned them in the failed effort to control a fungal disease about 10 years ago. Florida before that was the lime king for North America. So all of a sudden I find myself as the lime king in Florida and have over the top interest in our product.... Viva La Trump!!!!
The media of course is reporting that it is the American consumer who will be paying the 20% increase. Of course they fail to mention that consumers always have the choice of buying American instead of Mexican. 5
Happy for you, Ralph. That's great news. It's always nice to see one of the good guys make a well researched bold move that pays off.
