Good luck in getting that kid from New Orleans to back out of his verbal to LSU, Coach O!! Will not let that happen! Quick look at B1G recruiting shows. 1. Ohio State 2. Michigan 3. Maryland ...what the ? 4. Penn State 5. Neb
the biggest steal in the state of Alabama is Baniko Harley. http://highschoolsports.al.com/news...ectacular-final-audition-for-college-coaches/ He's a dual threat QB and this is a good year to steal Alabama QBs with the Tide and Tigers looking mostly elsewhere for 5 star guys. I remember years ago I tried talking about the great QB dual I saw at the Athens-Decatur game. Folks wrote it off as 'well, Alabama or Auburn would recruit them if they were that good.' Here we are all these years later, Phillip Rivers (Athens HS Decatur resident) is still playing in the NFL and the only thing that derailed Cole Barthel (Decatur HS) from playing with the Atlanta Braves was a blown up elbow. He was still a 3rd draft pick out of HS and turned down his scholarship offer to Arkansas. Point being, I have a pretty good nose for talent and this guy is going to make someone very happy.
Keep us up to date on the kid, his problem no doubt is that there are so darn many great athletes playing QB in the various spread systems. It's hard to stand out.
Will do T. The kid led Ramsey (a Birmingham school) to a state championship. A Birmingham school hadn't won the state title since the late 70s or early 80s. The program itself is only in its 4th year, after it was discontinued back in the 70s. I don't just say this because it's my kids team, but Decatur was pretty damned good this year. We figured that coming out of our Region, we stood a good shot if we could get away from the teams in our region. The problem is, the way the brackets were set, is that all of the teams from our region were in one pod, so eventually you'd wind up playing at least one. That kid from Ramsey beat both Decatur and Austin (Decatur's cross town rival and only loss of the season in 3OT). The thing is, he's not the big Cam Newton type. He's not the drop back NFL type. This state already has QBs going to Stanford, Florida and Arkansas in this class. He honestly reminds me of Tommy Frazier. He's fast, no one ever gets a solid piece of the kid and he's an accurate passer. All this in a left-handed QB. We had absolutely no answer for that kid. No one did. All the teams who were the favorites of the newspapers faced this kid and he beat them all. He has one offer, from Alabama A&M, and if he winds up playing on that level, he'll do quite well for himself. Still, he's only 6 feet tall and skinny. I'm sure that hurts him as much as anything.
