The race is on. Cubs/Cards knotted up...BrewCrew and Stros 4 and 5 back....NLC should be a fun division to watch during AUG/SEP....certainly the best and cheat free baseball at least... .... BTW Jiffy, is Lugo gonna pop hot on the next wiz quiz?
Lugo is now also on my fantasy team with Pujols. Ramirez from the Cubs is also. However I have always like the Cardinals so have to root for them first. The Cubs would probably be my third choice from the National league. With the Marlins being first of course.
I wish I could be more optomistic but Oswalt and Wandy nursing injuries and the last homestand vs the Giants pretty much took it all out of me. I think it will just be the Cards and the Cubs. Obviously Astros could be a factor in helping one or the other though.
John, Joe, Dave (ESPN) said the Cards did the best job of re-tooling their line up during the trades. All said pitching was 3/4...Mention Carp and Wainwright, then hold your breath...
I agree that the Cards made smart moves before the trade deadline, and it's paying off offensively. The Cubs have a somewhat different situation from the Cards re: pitching. The starting rotation is dependable - on balance probably better than the Cards - but the relief pitching? When the starter goes out, hold your breath. The Cubs do not have a closer who is even semi-dependable.
Cards... <t>Husker,<br/> <br/> I'm back on the board after taking some time off from bulletin boards and the net in general. 24 pounds lighter and jazzed about college football starting. Make or braek year for the IRISH and CW.<br/> On the Redbirds I was happy to se Cards management step up for this year with the three new guys that have helped greatly but set in motion signing M. Holliday to a long term deal. He and Sir Albert are the same age and having them in tandem for years to come is a great thing for Cardinal Nation. It has to happen. Look at what those two did last night to explain my point. We shall see if the signing gets done but early indications are it will.<br/> Having said that it will come down to what it always does and that is pitching. With a healthy Carpenter 11-3 now and Wainwright things look good. Still a long way to go.<br/> <br/> Terry, the Norris kid looks like a good young arm. I like what I have seen of him so far.</t>
