Without doing a lot of in depth research here are some statistics/facts that I know about Ohio State They are located in Columbus Ohio The Buckeyes take in the most money of any school according to an article that came out earlier this year. One of the few teams to play in a 100,000 capacity stadium that they fill every home game with loyal fans This is their 3rd appearance in the BCS Championship game in the last 6 years, a record no one else can match. They are 1 - 1 in the prior two games, beating Miami in a game they were a heavy underdog, and losing to Florida in a game they were heavily favored. They also have appeared in one NCAA Basketball tournament losing last year to the Gators. While they haven't won three in a row like the Gators did with Basketball and football, they are now appearing in their third straight championship game that includes basketball and football. They are the only team that can make that 4 straight appearances if they get to the basketball finals in March. In football recruiting right now they are one of only three teams, according to Scout, to have an average star rating over 4. The other two being Notre Dame and S. Cal In those same recruiting rankings they have the most players committed that are in the top 100 players, 9. That's one more than S. Cal. 9 is an obscene number no matter what, but when they only have 15 recruits at this point that's unbelievable. Sounds like a pretty good program to me.
Gator Bill, I am thrilled that we have a chance to be in the championship game. Something I did not think would happen after losing to Illinois. We will be the underdog this time around and I think Coach Tressel will prepare a bit differently. We love the SEC! We were very embarrassed by the Gators last year. Unfortunately our basketball team is struggling at the moment with a very inexperienced and young team. Hopefully Matta will have them better prepared come March! Don
Minor correction to Bill's thread... OU played in the champ game 3 times in a 5 years span: 2000-2004. (not that they deserved them all!) Carry on...
Bill, no doubt we are in a good place right now....the AD's have hired well. I love the two coaches of the major programs right now and can't think of another pair I would trade for....we're quite thankful for what we've got because things can change in a hurry. I posted this factoid on another thread, but I think it extraordinary enough to post it again but Tressel's record of taking his teams to the championship game is almost unreal.....Tressel has coached 22 seasons. He has taken his teams to 9 national championship games in those 22 seasons. It's kinda hard to do better than that.....I think we'll keep him.
You are right Scott, I had let the appearances slip my mind a little. USC would have appeared three years in a row if it hadn't been for the OU's last appearance.
another BCS factoid <r>I just read this in a news article.<br/> <br/> USC is making its 6th straight BCS bowl game appearance.<br/> <br/> USC is 4-1 in its previous 5 BCS bowl games losing only the heartbreaking (ok, well not heartbreaking to us Irish fans) fashion to Vince Young and Texas in the NC game.<br/> <br/> Under Pete Carroll, USC has finished the regular season in the months of November and December with a 25-1 record.<br/> <br/> Iowa 38-17<br/> Michigan 28-14<br/> Oklahoma 55-19<br/> Texas 38-41 (Loss)<br/> Michigan 32-18<br/> <br/> On second thought, I'm against the playoff idea until we get much better at ND <E></E></r>
Plus Pete Carroll seems to be a good guy...seems to be harder to be a dedicated Trog hater these days.
Petey has got it going on out there for sure.....our trip out west next September will be a big time showdown. Kudos to both AD's for making that happen....might just have to be a road trip for me.
Whoa there! Are you telling me that OSU is going to travel over 2,000 miles next season to play USC? Do you realize what this will do to your "art" of scheduling for a national championship?
Our scheduling guys just are not very good at this championship scheduling thing.....but we did have such a good time with our visit to defending national champion Texas at their home in Austin last year, we decided to give Petey his turn in the box.....and after Petey's Trojans are done, we've got Stoops and his Sooners on deck for a home-home in another classic failure in the art of championship scheduling....
<r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> No its not. Pete is an arsehole. Don't let his 'gimme a hug' public face fool you. He's a blunt, bad mouthing, hard nosed recruiter that has been known to drop F bombs on recruits that go elsewhere.<br/> <br/> Sure there are worse out there, but he's no John McKay.<br/> <br/> I have to give the devil it's due. They are impressive. Yet make no mistake, they are the devil.</r>
Ahhhh, that's my boy. That's the Corey, son of JO'Co, that I know and love. I knew you'd come back to the light after making your annual run at trying to win respect for the Pac10.
I think the bowls are going to do that. I don't think its too much to believe that I can hate USC, and still acknowledge their incredible on-field accomplishments. And it really pisses me off they are having this success while we are down. Better days ahead.
Yeah, I understand...I'm just bein' stoopid. :? I think the best measure of a coach (as far as what kind of man he is) is how he treats the kids...all kids...not just the ones that join his program.
