Michigan State and Ohio State have experienced some great games over the years. They absolutely shattered our dreams for a national championship in 1998. here in Columbus. Question is which MSU team will show up this Saturday? On paper the Buckeyes are solid 14 point favorites, but I will feel better after we come out of East Lansing with a victory, no matter how close. Don
The MSU coach is still whining about Charlie Weis almost four weeks later. The loss to the Irish is causing him to have a breakdown and started his team on a three game losing streak. Relax, Don. The Buckeyes will win by 24 points.... or more.
Yes he can. When he is hot he is white hot and does some amazing things...but then it's like he loses focus and things go south. I wonder if you'll get to see a John L. meltdown! That guy is a maniac.
MSU couldn't cover ND's receivers. Who in their right mind thinks that they can handle OSU's? I think after Bobby Williams got the boot after a slaughter by M Lloyd pulled back the reigns a little last weekend. No such luck this week, the Spartans get thrown off the Tressel.
Quinn shredded the MSU defense in a monsoon. Ohio State is more potent than the ND. Smith is unhinged. Ohio State will clobber them for style points in the rankings if nothing else. Relax, Don.
Don, Krebs is a guru. He correctly picked OSU to beat PSU by 20. You don't question the boys from South Jersey. How they get it done is of no concern. With 2 minutes left in the game, I thought he was toast. I suspect there were family connections with the Morelli's. Mr. Krebs picked Penn State to beat Michigan. Even his 1st LT Jiffer picked PSU. I like this guy George Krebs. I going place a call to my friend in Vegas. I suggest you not worry, mortgage your home and do the same.
AJNJ, I will have to admit George has been on the money on his predictions. Guess I am just a little bit on the conserative side! Don
AJNJ: We gotta meet for lunch one of these days. Of course, I appreciate the compliments. I prefer not to discuss "methods" here, as you alluded to . Let's just say we are a "results oriented" operation. 8) I'll pass on your kind words to my consultant at the office, Vinnie "The Fixer". Another satisfied customer
Krebsie, the Sparty team that folded in the 4th quarter against the Irish scares me not a bit....the Sparty team that gashed the Irish and was spanking their arse through 3 quarters concerns me a great deal. As I have said before, give me a one point win in E Lansing and all is well. Just win baby. Sparty is not without talent. At some point, they will get pi$$ed off enough and smack somebody in the mouth. I just hope they wait at least a week. Terry
Common misconception, fed by that media giant, Craig James: What the average joe cannot - and does not want to - see is that ND was the better team on the field. ND's defense stiffened significantly in the 2nd half and stifled MSU's running game. Yes, MSU's game plan got more conservative, but a big reason for that is the defensive adjustments ND made in its rush and in its secondary. A cursory glance at the 2nd half stats bears this out. If MSU folded, it was in the area of penalties, which gave us good field position, plus Quinn & co. came to life in the 4th quarter. Make no mistake. ND was and is much better than MSU. It was ND shooting itself in the foot in the 1st half that gave MSU that lead, not the common misconception quoted above. MSU's dismal performance the next week vs. Illinois proves that they are a lousy team with no character who benefitted from ND's ineptness for half a game. OSU is a much more polished team than ND. If OSU does not roll over this football team, shame on OSU.
Sid, I never had the opportunity to see James' comments on the game....but, I'm not surprised that an Irish fan would have a different view than most other observers. That said, imo, most objective viewers would suggest that Sparty clearly played better football in the first half than the second.....and that they are capable of playing better football than they have shown of late. If Sparty plays the kind of football they are capable of, in front of the home crowd, embarrassed by their recent performances, spoiling to make their season by knocking off #1, we will have our hands full. Sid, I've seen this picture too many times before and have been on the wrong side of the outcome to believe that it can't happen. It can and does.....that said, if our kids play well, I agree, we should win, but that's why they play the game. Terry
Now I know why Stu didn't like the Irish Towel idea, if the Buckeyes gave out towels to fans you guys would either cry in them or be wiping sweat off your brows!! The only two games you guys have to sweat are the UM game and the rematch with Texas!!
Smith will typically go into a shell with a 2-3 td lead in the 3rd quarter and try to eat up the clock. Against Wisconsin a couple of years ago, with his team up 35-14 late in the 3rd quarter, MSU proceeds to run 12 times out of their last 13 plays. A year or 2 earlier Minnesota nearly beat them after being down by 2-3 tds. Even last year against ND he ran the ball 10 out of the last 11 plays. I have seen many teams come storming back against MSU when they were down a lot. You'd think he would have learned his lesson by now. What I find so amusing is that he runs these ultra conservative plays and they still find ways to fumble and turn the ball over.
TOK, I sweat 'em all! In the '02 title season, I was sweatin' bullets when Cincy as well as the Stripeheads had a chance to win on the games last play....the OT -v- Illinois, Tressel's huge brass ball decision on 4th down with a minute to play -v- Pudue to throw the ball downfield - Holy Buckeye! I sweat 'em all! A rematch with Texas at home in the Arizona desert......? You are a glutton for punishment. The baby-faced defense you faced in the friendly environs of Austin will be a distant memory and bear no resemblance to the group of men that you would face in Ohio Stadium West! From Colt to gelding is not a fond wish for that young man! Terry
