Crazy game for the Buckeyes. We jump out to a 21 point lead on three early outstanding plays and the defense, which appeared to be improving, allowed over 450 yards to the Illini. Only problem was they kept turning the ball over. They even had a better possession time that Ohio State. Braxton Miller was not as effective in the passing game this week, but his feet made up for the difference. Carlos Hyde had a monster day rushing for 245 yards. This effort did nothing to improve our standing in the BCS rankings, but Stanford's loss did. Baylor still nipping at our heels. Several 60 yard punts by our Aussie punter, Johnston. The wind probably helped some.
The Buckeyes have a very good team but their schedule is such that they have been dependent on others all season long. Clearly on the outside looking in.
For those who think a win is a win in college football, Urban Meyer would disagree. "We're disappointed by [winning at Illinois] 60-35. We didn't cover whatever spread that we needed to, didn't score enough points to boost up our rating. That's a reason why we're disappointed with the way that we played. It's reality."
George, Urban is also expressing his displeasure with the BCS in general terms, stating things are what they are and the system is not perfect. Boy is that news to me!
I know how he feels. It's not that you're really worried about the point spread but it is the fact that you do not play well enough to beat a more evenly matched opponent.
