I was a bit nervous about the MSU game today, but we managed to stay at the top for at least another week.

Chris (Beanie) Wells had an outstanding game with over 200 yards rushing, a career record.

Our defense played great, but a couple of turnovers by Todd Boeckman, permitted Michigan State to score two quick TDs in the third quarter.

Now for another stiff test next Saturday at Penn State.

Beanie Wells was a beast today....221 yards. Big runs coming off the goal line early. Tough physical runs for first downs late to ice the game. He was a warrior today and we'll need him even more down the stretch....and here we go.

Defense was spectacular today against a very, very good Spartan offense. Holding that offense to 185 yards total, 9 first downs and 2 snaps in Buckeye territory - excluding those that our offense gave them - is extraordinary. Too bad the offensive miscues late allowed them to put points on the board....I think that at this point it's safe to say they are a legitimate bad-a$$ defense and we are for certain going to need it down the stretch.

I think Boeckman continues to progress....he was virtually flawless through 3 quarters then had a couple very costly miscues when Sparty sold out down 24 and brought big pressure. Miscommunications and bad decisions on the o-line and Todd gave Sparty a pulse.....good to get that stuff on film so they can get coached up. No doubt PSU will bring pressure. They have a very solid defense.

I sure am going to miss having the opportunity to have fun jawing with AJNJ this week.....it's not going to be the same. It's been 14 years or so with severe a$$-kickings on both sides to go along with many nail-biters and I don't recall a single mean-spirited word between us.....not one.

Best of luck to your Nits Andy....I know my Buckeyes are going to be in for a helluva scrap. May the best team win.....

    Terry,

I think Saturday night will hopefully tell us how good this Buckeye team can be.

It should be a very interesting evening. I have come to really like the night games.

First string defense has given up 23 points all season...1st string offense has given up 16.

Defense shut down the #1 offensive team in the Big 10 two weeks in a row.

I was sitting in the Shoe watching the stats a bit...at the start of the 4th quarter MSU had averaged only 38 yds (!!!) offense per quarter, yet was only down 10 points. Amazing what a couple quick turnovers for scores can do. WE ALMOST DID IT A THIRD TIME IN A ROW...Beanie fumbled and it was bouncing in and out of everybody's hands, including MSU guys who looked like they could have grabbed it and run all the way for a TD for a third time in a row!...fortunately Beanie recovered his own fumble...and we punted. They then posted really their only offense of the day, completing 2 or 3 passes to get down to our 20. The defense then made big-time stops and they kicked a field goal to close to 7 with 3 and a half min. left.

They kicked deep, hoping for a stop, but we then rushed 7 times in a row for 3 first downs to run the clock out on them.

The turnovers were on Boeckman (and the O-line) but other than those two plays he had a great game...even tied an OSU record for consecutive completions. (12...10 in a row to start this game plus his previous 2.)

My son (needsajob) was in Lexington at the KY-Fla game, and saw the score and called me thinking we'd won a nailbiter...I guess we did, but seemed in control of the entire game except for two plays.

Beanie's performance ranked in the top 10 for OSU rushing days (#9).

    What a strange game.

Your son saw a great game Stu.

An interesting storyline in the Detroit Free Press today discussed how the OSU crowd applauded when the 7-0 Ky lead was put up on the scoreboard at the Shoe but then later booed when UF leading was posted.

Me thinks the local press here in Michigan enjoys that a little too much.

Dave, interesting...I was at the game and actually there was an "ooh and ah" kind of reaction to the scores, but I don't recall any booing or cheering and actually I think that the crowd was happy that another undefeated team had gone down...and we're all just hoping that we aren't next.

My son wasn't happy...he graduated from UK dental school...but he wasn't surprised...nor was I. If you check the football picks we both picked Fla to win...he even gave it more confidence points than I did.

What can I say?...he is in second place.

Terry, we had a safe weekend. :!:

You might have missed that reaction Stu....or maybe the Freep here in Detroit is doing some creative reporting?

Tom, I don't know why I'm feelin' cranky today  but you don't have to correct me twice, especially when it's all semantics...if you notice, by the time I got over to the other topic and saw your response and answered (10:07PM) I had already posted the note here (10:04PM)...

Gator Bill is in first place of the race that is left...for the runner-up trophy. Andy has already won the first place trophy but he is not in the point standings that are ongoing.

You don't even have Andy on the top of your list of standings...(I know, I know, it was probably a cut and paste thing.)

More important than semantics, why don't we name the trophy after Andy, and then we will be remembering him every year?

What sort of dentistry does your son practice? Next time you speak to him, ask him if he's familiar with any of the new calcium-phosphosilicate technologies being used as a therapy for hyper-sensitivity teeth and remineralization of the tooth, especially as a treatment for tooth root caries.

Stu... chill... Didn't you see the wink???
Actually, I do. That is why the standings are stating: "The race for second place" Andy was declared the winner and the rest are shooting for second. First place was announced on 11-Oct. On the 14th, I stated:
    On the 21st I stated:
All of this was in the contest topic.
Although it has not been made public, renaming the contest was mentioned behind the scenes. I see that as a good thing to do. I believe that Terry and Bill fell the same way. I like your idea more. What if the 2008 contest awards the Jaskewicz trophy... The Andy Jaskewicz trophy... the AJNJ trophy... I'll start an announcement with a poll to see which way the membership leans.

Mike has already been in touch with us and we have opened an account for him to stick around and post with us.

Gonz...been pretty soft for us so far...ranked #71 (Sagarin). But it gets tougher now.

    Miami is #50.

    S. Fla is #8
    LSU is #10
    Kansas #117
    ASU #60
    BC #51

Your pick, Oklahoma, is 7-1 against the #83 schedule.

Thanks. Also pass along that some of those new technologies are thought to be effective in treating/remineralzing the white spots which develop while wearing braces. Someone needs to run a human clinical to really find out.

    HI Express!!

Actually, I have some connections to a life sciences company involved in the development and commercialization of these technologies. They're really very intriguing but getting the big consumer products companies to move away from an established 50 year-old technology - fluoride - is much like (I imagine) trying to get the major oil companies to embrace alternative fuel sources.
