The outrage and uproar over Obama's speech aimed at school children is much ado about NOTHING. Yes, Obama is very liberal and has many policies that I disagree with, but this is ridiculous. This just shows how lost the Republican/Conservative movement is right now. It's fine to dislike Obama, but let's offer some constructive ideas, instead of crying about Obama brainwashing our kids with socialism. These parents who are taking their kids out of school just look ignorant. This just really irks me to no end.
Why bother? Republicans aren't even invited to participate in many of these backroom bill conferences. Democrats have large majorities in both houses and yet liberals are castigating Republicans for not offering ideas. How about not blaming the Republicans for a change, push your plans and see if enough of your own party can stomach it. So far, the crap isn't going down very easily. And as for Obama's speech to the kids, here we have him plumeting in the polls, his health care plans blowing oil, his AG plotting to prosecute Bush intelligence folks, and he all of a sudden is talking to the school kids? Why not give them a couple of weeks to get used to the school routine before this obvious media ploy?
He is the rankest of rank amateurs. And he's on TV more than the late Billy Mays. He's clueless and he's running on fumes.
On second thought, maybe he should be talking to the kids. After all, he's spent their future wealth. He's burdened their generation with so much debt that they might never be able to dig out. And besides having to pay off trillions pissed away on things such as his "stimulus" package that is becoming more and more a bad joke, they will have to somehow ante up to save a social security system that will be completely broke by 2037. I recall Bush had a proposal that the Dems violently opposed. And just what "constructive idea" did they offer in response? NOTHING!
Agreed. A noted local conservative radio commentator this morning asked the question.......What has happened to conservatives? They used to be able to think. This is just a knee jerk reaction. I agree. The Democrats acted the same way when the first President Bush did the same thing back in 1988. It's clearly a kneejerk reaction and shows how politically factious our country has become. On both ends of the political spectrum, minds have shut tight and hateful politics is the order of the day. There is nothing wrong with the president appealing to school children to take their education seriously, which is what this is all about. The White House has acknowledged the initially poor choice of words, which will be corrected for the actual speech. Spare me the whining about the "socialist agenda" and the "campaigning". I don't agree with his political views or his agenda, but this is about education. Period.
Agree Sid....as a further sign of the times, the Supt of Schools here has taken the step of requiring parental permission before allowing the children to watch the President of the United States speak! We, the country, are in a bad, bad place and we, the country, need to fix it! This is absurd.....I don't agree with his political views, I don't agree with his policies and don't believe we are well served by them, but he is the President of the United States.
I dislike Obama as much as anyone here, but... If parents are worried that a short speech can cause their kids to follow like lemmings, then I'd suggest the parents have not done much to instill a value system. then again... I'm not sure how many parents these days have values  .
In the interest of full disclosure, I must confess that I posted my comments above without complete knowledge of what has transpired. I was not aware of the 1-2" thick packet of information sent by the administration to all the schools in the country. Last night we were with our close friends, the principal of Bishop Dwenger HS and his wife (for you ND fans, the HS of John Goodman and Tyler Eifert). He described to me the packet, which was news to me. Of course, because BD is a Catholic HS in the diocese administered by the Bishop who refused to attend ND's graduation because of Obama's pro abortion stance, it's no surprise that they will not be showing the president's speech. Not that anyone cares, but I would amend my previously stated opinion only to say that the administration has committed another strategic blunder, which rightfully diminishes significantly the effectiveness of the president's message. I stand by my assessment of the political climate and the acceptability of the president encouraging the nation's school children to take a strong interest in their education.....certainly with a more intelligent approach than taken by this administration.
I think this particular speech is probably innocent in nature at this point. But this president has instilled a lot of fear in people in a short period of time. I was at a doctor appointment yesterday and my MD told me that he voted for Obama yet was now terrified of him. He frightens people in a way that I have never seen.
Interesting. I wonder how many others who are closer to the middle of the political spectrum and leaned his way now feel the same as your doctor.
