Honestly, I think the RICO act is a hot plate of poo... I understand full well the frustration that bore out the use of the law as weaponry but that doesn't make it right.

I was talking with a former conlaw professor yesterday, just catching up on life/crap etc.. and he was talking about how the perpetuation of legislation is created more criminals than ever, and a legalized white collar class of criminal that can be viewed through eyes on either side of the political spectrum as a 'shrewd businessman.'

He had asked me on my opinion (I oddly agree with him although I hardly believe any of this is new.. the demographics just shift a bit) on 'what it would take to be a criminal today?' (why people ask me, I don't know, I'm not one but probably should be lol) and my answer was simple... I'd unplug. I'd remove myself from the electronic existence of today. Without taking that step 1, you'll never make it. The Fed leaning on the resources of the NSA will find you just as soon as they want to. He then joked about moving off to Montana in a compound.. but I corrected him. The place to hide out and establish your criminal practice is right in major metro areas. All you have to do is unplug. You can't steal money where there is no money. You still need to be where the resources to exploit are, but you can't partake in them.

With the notable exception of OBL who had a billion dollar infastructure, religious zealots and entire nation states protecting him... the criminals we have always had the hardest time finding are the ones who exist simply. Especially in this day and age.. even law enforcement is beholden to technology.

He did make an interesting observation in his disappointment of GenX criminals... in so much that there aren't more or better ones. In all honesty, we're the last generation of Americans who know that life is possible without GPS tracking, the internet and all the technology that we've come to rely on.

Sound the bells on that statement Corey, its so true it's shocking!!!

My 19 year old son who continually questions authority (Just finished his 1st year of college) speaks of changing the worlds governments and other forms of "the establishment". My usual quick witted reply is learn how to turn off the power supply to the world and watch it evolve back a 100 years. People have no concept of not being plugged in, it's almost absurd...
