This is an excellent summation of the transition the GOP has been undergoing culminating in it's presidential nomination of the not so worldly Donald Trump: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/01/opinion/how-the-stupid-party-created-donald-trump.html?smid=fb-nytimes&smtyp=cur&_r=1
Not much probably.... but he finagled his way to the GOP nomination for President because of some things highlighted in that Times article.... the GOP base voters, driven by media types like Limbaugh, Fox News et al... got away from the party leadership and ideals and became more focused on the hate and distrust. It's almost like where I read that Muslim terrorists actually know the least about the Muslim religion when questioned about it and likewise the GOP's new base of voters probably couldn't fully explain what it really means to be a good Republican except to say they just hate anyone who is not.
The two choices Americans have available to them this fall election: One is an empty box..... And one box is full of snakes, hard to argue for either choice to be honest but you stand a greater chance of getting snake bit from box number two...
For 30+ years, I've heard from the Liberal elite that conservatives in general and Republicans specifically, were idiots. Now we have to listen to you spouting off (through reference of your at the NY Times) that it was all for fun, except now it really is true? Based on education level, the extremes of no HS education and post-grad overwhelmingly vote Democrat. (This should come as no surprise since postgrad is very well represented by academia, which itself has become a Democrat stronghold.) Until that point, the higher on the education ladder you go, the more likely you are to vote Republican. 2006 Midterm Election, CNN: 2008 Presidential Election, CNN: 2010 Midterm Election, CNN: 2012 Presidential Election, CNN: The following charts from people-press.org show that the strength of the Democrats doesn't come from the educated (especially considering the a very small percentage of the population has postgraduate education thus provides very little advantage even though it leans heavily blue) but from women, non-whites, and lower-income. Another link. And this one shows that the Left has continued to move toward the Far Left, while the Right has moved toward the Moderate Right and Center: From theatlantic.com:
No secret that business owners vote GOP while intellectual elite vote Dem. As you say there's not enough of either group to sway an election. The working stiff in the 25 year old GMC pick-up truck with a Trump sticker on the back windshield ( that I saw this morning ) has many more voters of his background than he does owners of businesses. And particularly in this election.... which is what the article's point is..... Trump receives much more of that working stiff demograhic's vote than he does white collar college graduates. https://morningconsult.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Educationgraphic.png
Most of Trumps voters were cross-over Democrats, independents and first time voters. The Republican base didn't vote for him and very few of them even attended the convention.
In Florida you have to be a registered voter with the party you are voting for in the primary in order to vote and Trump had a solid win here. This campaign is unprecedented in my lifetime. I cannot remember such intra party strife and rebellion in any major party regarding it's presidential nominee post convention. In this case I am almost comforted by that..... This division has been a long time coming. Let's face it.... really..... how does a guy like Mitt Romney relate to his base constituency.... made up of so many Bubbas.
Hahaha...And the other party offers a better membership with much more insight and better opportunities...Where are you fitting in this wonderful piece of the pie Dave..?
Ha ha Ralph.... never said all of Hillary's followers were savvy... educated or even sane. But you probably won't find too many Bubbas....
LOL....I do know quite a few folks who could be described as such but are card carrying democrats. They are everything the left wants to change but because "daddy" voted that way they are too. Ask them about current events and they look at you like you have three heads, it's just not on their radar and never will be. It doesn't make them less intelligent but in the end they are just less interested. All they know is you are not a true American if you don't vote and this is how pops voted...I'm sure it's the same way for some voters on the right as well.. I'm feeling somewhere Monty Hall is laughing at us....
 The Republican base are not Bubbas. The Republican base is the middle class. Voting for Romney was easy. Meanwhile, half the Democratic Party just voted for a Communist who isn't even registered in the Democratic Party... BTW- It appears as if most of those Democrat "super delegates" are registered lobbyists. No wonder most of Wall Street supports Hillary. They know the Clintons are for sale...
Well that GOP middle class base must reside in Oklahoma because Trump out polled Clinton there by 53-29 % whereas Clinton leads him in just about every other state.
Jacksonville last night had 16,000 there to watch Trump with a few thousand outside. Pics are courtesy of my son who drove an hour and a half to experience this. He already did a Bernie rally earlier in the election and says he's not sure he can stomach a Hillary rally..,
That last one is pretty funny.... Being from Jacksonville I can tell you it is a place that is ripe for some Trump supporters to have a rally... 8)
As always the word "hate" is the bomb thrown by the left. Meanwhile, they hate Christians, gun owners, the Constitution, the military and successful business people. And then there's this The operative word is "working." He wants a decent job, he wants to be self-sufficient, he wants to provide well for his family. As opposed to the non working stiffs with their Hillary stickers.
