Well the game is only a few days away so it's time to start the topic. Irish are solid favorites as expected. Temple has a new HC and lost a lot of kids off of their 10-4 squad from last year. Owls like the Irish will be breaking in a new QB. Naturally we hope Wimbush will shine in his debut and that the OL will begin to live up to their potential and push around the Owls. I'd love to see all three RB's have excellent games and for Wimbush to be efficient in the passing game. I don't really want to see us throw the ball 40 times. I'ld like to see us throw it 20 or so times, dominating them by running the ball. On defense I hope that our middle, which is the weak point will show that the off season training program was working and hold up against the run. I hope that Jerry Tillery keeps his cool and finally becomes the player that had everybody excited about when he enrolled. I saw in an article that our old buddy Chollie has a new job, working the media for Fox Sports. NFL not college. Jr is with the Falcons. Also we all hope that we have no injuries in this game of course.
Well, my excitement has been muted because the Temple players predict that they're going to kick our *ss. I was hoping for a win, but I guess that hope is down the drain. https://www.uhnd.com/football/temple-talking-trash-fantastic-38422/ Note toward the end of the article the author prints what he'd like the ND players to say in response. Pretty funny.
That's good stuff! I hope the Irish players saw that for sure even though I'm not a big believer in quotes like that impacting the game! I did listen to Mike Franks Power Hour and they had a Temple writer from a Philly paper on and he said the new HC has been a dynamo and very well received by the team and the Temple community. He does have a long solid record as an asst coach at some really good places. So I do expect that Temple will come out and be fired up. Irish need to snuff that our quickly you don't want an underdog being able to hang around with you till late in the game.
Notre Dame <t>There may be an ass kicking but I don't think it will be the Irish on the receiving end.</t>
Notre Dame <t>I'm having trouble getting excited going into this season after what happened last year. I'll wait to see how the game goes saturday to see if we have reason for hope. <br/> <br/> There are enough new faces around the team this seaon to make you think something has to change. Let's hope it's for the good.<br/> <br/> Go Irish!</t>
f*ck these guys. Wimbush throws for over 2 bills, and 1 of our RBs pulls down 140 yards on the ground. We'll see how our new defense looks. I hope we stuff them. It's time for a new year and new hope. If we don't get it, we get a new coach. All I see is wins no matter what.
Lot's of unknowns on both sides of the ball. We think we should be a good offense, but with a new QB who hasn't played much you don't know. I have to say I have read so much good about Wimbush in terms of how he handles himself, his leadership, etc I really hope he succeeds. Unlike last year where we had an unsettled QB situation we have no such problem this year. Also reportedly Wimbush is very well liked by his teammates. I hope I get to see the game, the stations here are all Harvey 24/7 I wonder if Saturday they will defer to football instead of more non-stop Harvey coverage. So much of it now is just reporters out at sites talking to victims, showing what is going on. We'll see.
Spread is up to 18 1/2. I am taking Temple and the points because all logic says so. ND-coming off 4-8 with a new staff, new QB and a new D line. Temple coming off two 10 win seasons, statistically good defense and have covered the spread in 12 of the last 13 games.
Hey Terry, let me know if you aren't able to see the game. It will be a bit basic, but I'll hook my phone up to a Facebook live feed and you can watch it on my page. Of course, you could probably watch it on the NBCSports app, but the offer is still there.
Thanks Corey. Irish offense off to a great start, defense has only given up 3 points they look great.
ok cool so you're able to see the game? Yeah, we look okay so far. Temple doesn't look bad, but we do look good. I'm still a bit worried about our A gap presence on defense.
Notre Dame <r>Nice opener. <br/> <br/> 606 yds. 422 rushing<br/> <br/> 3, 3, yes three QB sacks!!! and one turnover.<br/> <br/> Good opener for Wimbush, the O-line, RBs and the D. <br/> <br/> Go Irish!<br/> <br/> oh yeah, I think the Irish covered the spread. <E></E></r>
Yes it was a satisfying win. We had a lot of big plays in the running game and the defense did make some good stops in the 2nd half. I loved seeing that all of our backs got to play and they all did very well. Adams had 161 ys, Dexter Williams made a great case for being the #2 RB. Defense had it's moments but it seemed like Temple still was able to make too many plays and the secondary just didn't look all that good. I saw that Temple only ran for 87 yds, it seemed like a lot more than that. Wimbush looked great running the ball, but just ok throwing the ball. But then it seemed like when he was in a passing situation that Temple got pressure on him and he made some bad decisions. He has a lot of growth in the passing game. We'll need him to do that. Not going to be able to run for 400 yds every game. I was surprised that Robt Hainsey played so much at RT. I thought Tommy Kraemer who is a 2nd year player and a very highly rated OL coming out of HS had won the job and would be the guy. But apparently not. There is competition there, although Hainsey did have 2 false starts that hurt. Go Irish.
I thought that our tackling was much better than last year and that's why Temple's rushing yardage was low.
On the plus side, we scored 6 TDs on 6 possessions in the red zone. We had 3 100-yard rushers. Wimbush looked very good in his first start. He made several heads-up plays with his feet and his arm. Of 17 pass completions, 7 were to tight ends. The defense looked crisp, as Gip said above. Tackling at/near the line of scrimmage was solid. Open field tackling IMO needs work but was adequate. We didn't wilt late in the game like last season, a very good sign. On the negative side, not much. Wimbush's INT was an ill-advised throw into coverage under pressure, which made his day one INT less than perfect. A learning opportunity IMO. Our running defense seemed a bit leaky at times in the middle quarters. Our pass defense needs work. We don't really know how good Temple is, but they're not Bethune-Cookman. We get a real test next week when Georgia comes to town.
