Weather forecast....rain and cold. I was at the 2012 game, it was the same. I was miserable that day, questioned why I was there, till we won the game and then I was warm and happy!
Terry, Stanford should provide you with a good measuring stick, as to how good you are this season? Weather does not sound very favorable.
Don, Stanford will be the best team we've played so far this season. They are a tough physical squad. I hope we play well, won't be surprised if we win or if we lose. Should be a close game.
I haven't seen much of ND except the highlights (where Golson looks very good). Do you guys think you can run it consistently against Stanford if the weather is crappy?
Right now I'd say unless our OL has an epiphany this week we are going to have to live with a mediocre running game. I think our backs are all good but not so good that they don't need holes to open and stay open for a second or so, they are fast but not fast enough to out run you to the edge. So far the book on defending us seems to be bring tons of run blitzes and stunts to confuse the OL and stuff the run, take your chances with the passing game. Stanford on the other hand is likely to want to stop the running game with a conventional defense, mix in some blitzes like everybody does and not over commit to stop the run. I think it will be a very tough win for this team.
ND <t>We can win this game but not with 3 or 4 turnovers. We will need to take advantage of every trip we get inside the 20 Yd line. We gotta get points each time. Stanford is not what they were the last few years but still very sound and don't make mistakes. We need to score at least 28pts and hope our D keeps doing what it had been.</t>
Stanford offense seems to be struggling, Washington gave up 20 points to them and USC only 10. I know that in the USC game their offense moved the ball well but just couldn't score, didn't watch or really read anything about the game with Washington, maybe Washington has a ton of talent on D and 20 points against them is a lot...but bottom line in their 2 games vs good opponents they have 10 and 20 points on offense. So I'm not really worried that they will come in here and put up a big score on our defense. What I am worried about is their defense which is a tough physical defense. They always say you make the biggest improvement between your 1st and 2nd games of the year. I'm hoping that applies to our new OL alignment.
Stanford is the favorite. Irish dropped in the polls this week, even though we beat the spread for the game which was 9.5 by Friday and Syracuse never really challenged us in the game. But I guess our turnovers and the fact that our "signature" win is not looking too good right now.
You guys shoulda scheduled McNeese St....that woulda given ya a good measuring stick before Stanford. 8)
We tried, but they had a full schedule. They said they were trying to pad their record by scheduling Big 10 teams. They almost accomplished their objective.
Andrew Luck was interviewed tonight on Indy TV. Predictably, he threw his support behind Stanford, saying he hopes they win big.
ND <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> Not that it matters but I've seen the spread both ways on this Terry, either way it's Stanford -1 or ND -1. Some have it even. Not much either way.</r>
This really doesn't help. But I tend to agree with the kid. The university has really handled this in a ham-handed way. I don't think the Warren commission convened this long. http://espn.go.com/college-football...ivarae-russell-notre-dame-becoming-ridiculous
First of all I'm glad Russell "killed" his meeting. I'd like nothing more than for these kids to prove that they had done nothing wrong. 2nd..I hope they all got fair hearing, and no matter what the outcome it's fair to all parties. The University has a right and duty to ensure that students not cheat no matter who they are. Athletes don't get a pass because they are athletes or a do over. While I'd like to know what has taken so long, I doubt we will ever hear the University explain why it took so long.
C.J. Prosise has not been a favorite receiver of some here, but this article points out that he's an outstanding blocker who gets a ton of credit for springing Corey Robinson on those outside flat passes in the Syracuse game. His blocking ability will be needed against Stanford. http://bleacherreport.com/tb/df4FY?...m=newsletter&utm_campaign=notre-dame-football
I think C.J. has become a solid player, most of the problems with C.J. go back to him dropping that wide open sure TD pass in the Rice game. But since then he's played well, not as well as Amir Carlisle but a solid player.
Because he is effective as a blocker, which bodes well for our outside running game,he likely will be used in certain situations solely for his blocking. My son pays close attention to WR and slot receiver blocking. He said he noticed Prosise' effectiveness in the Purdue game.
