Big week here for the Irish, finally have themselves in a position to get to the Championship game. USC has ruined a number of ND seasons where a Nat'l Title was on the line. The 1964 team was headed for a Nat'l Title when Pac10 refs stepped in... USC always has a lot of talent, and even though Barkley will not play the have 3 NFL quality WR's and a lot of other players who were 5* players in HS. The guy who is going to replace Barkley hasn't got a lot of experience, but make no assumptions that he is not talented. He comes from the same school and Leinart and Barkley and he has great WR's to throw the ball to. This is where our Seniors are so important, they have been through a lot they know how big this game is and how tough the Trojans will be no matter what the record, and they know what happens if they don't come prepared. F* USC.
Terry, great minds think alike re: "official topic." Please delete the topic I just entered, entitled "ND vs. Southern Cal." Thanks.
Sid, I deleted it for you and changed USC to "Southern Cal" as well p-er your wishes in your deleted topic.
Sorry, sitting at home recovering from hand surgery gives me plenty of time on my hands. Lord knows 'I have no reason to promote my 1st team so as an honorary ND fan after the ND game that Cindy and I attended in San Antonio I am semi-parking in this topic.
LOL! Thanks, Tom. Sorry you are forced to sit at home recuperating but glad you can participate in the fun.
"This USC team without Barkley still has more NFL talent than a great many teams in the top 10.. It's no easy chore." Says a lot for Coach Kiffin doesn't it? Terry you can close out the other topic I started. Here is the New York Post article about the game: http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/college/football/golden_opportunity_Y7gXnJ9bTrIKZevlXbdS1K The barkley out issue will be huge all week. The game itself....finally.... has relevancy of a great magnitude on the national scene.
Tom and Cindy were hardy ND fans for the ND/Wazzu game in San Antonio! Brought us good luck with the big win as well!
:!: The New York Post doesn't know anything about West Coast football. I saw USC QB Max Wittek play in high school and he's the real deal. He played at the same high school (Mater Dei) as Matt Barkley and Heisman winners Matt Leinart (USC) and John Huarte (Notre Dame). He might be the best of them, and he will certainly be the Trogs starting QB the next three years. He's 6'4" with a better arm than any of those three guys too. He beat out several other HS All-Americans to earn this job and he's completed 8 of 9 passes this season as Barkley's backup. The Irish will have their hands full trying to contain this guy, as he will be able to reach those all-world WRs on longer throws that Barkley couldn't make. The Max Wittek era begins now. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1414820-usc-football-max-wittek-the-qb-standing-between-notre-dame-and-a-bcs-title
ND <t>I still have my green hat they gave me for the ND/Wazzu game in San Antonio. Gotta dust it off and wear it Sat night!</t>
... except it has ND on the front and Notre Dame on the sides. Cindy and I still have our hats as well.
Irish will be on the cover of SI again this week. Irish on the Cover This quote is a little puzzling though. I hope it's not going to be a hatchet job that tries to make the point that we have lowered our standards and are now just another football factory. Because not only are we currently #1 in the polls, but for the umpteenth year in a row we are in the top 10 in Grad rates, in fact we are #1 in the most recent grad rates. That's not selling out or going downward, that's maintaining a high standard when most of the top football programs struggle to get to 60% grad rates we routinely are in the high 90's.
Yeah, you can tell from our graduation rate how far we've come down. BTW can you believe that we're on the cover of SI?
