Brian Kelly had his press conference today, not much news. Kmet might be able to play this weekend, medical clearance has been given. Will be up to the staff as to whether they will actually play them or not. Michael Young is getting close to being ready Jafar Armstrong had surgery to repair the rectus abdominis, no particular timeline for return. Jahmir Smith might miss New Mexico as he sprained his big toe in practice. Should be ready to go for UGA. Avery Davis back to RB, I doubt he'll play but they want the numbers and for him to be available. He played some RB last year but not really very successfully. He is athletic and does know the playbook. As everybody knows by now, Bob Davie will not be making the trip back with the team. I guess New Mexico didn't want to pay for him to coach from a hospital bed in the press box. Everybody else is healthy. Not much chatter on the return of Kevin Austin. Starting to look like it could be the whole season, but nobody really knows or is talking. Irish are 35 point favorites.
Just win. Take care of business and this should be all right. If we get a chance to rotate some kids in, all the better. One thing that bothered me about the Louisville game is that all summer we heard about how 'fast' the Irish intended to play. They showed none of that against the Lou. I won't be surprised if we see little of it against New Mexico. I am betting that we won't see it until Georgia.
It sets up a later season grind, but it's football. Everyone has a grind somewhere on their schedule.
Article on the Athletic about Bob Davie's staff, about how good they all turned out to be. Unfortunately for Davie as a group they weren't really all that successful. Maybe it was Davie who held them back, yah think?
off topic for this week, but I saw an article earlier stating that Georgia is expanding the seating of Sanford Stadium for the Notre Dame visit. I'm sure this has to do with our irrelevance.
Cole Kmet seems to be ready to go, could even play vs New Mexico if Kelly wanted to get him a few snaps. Also more options for hotels are coming to South Bend. I didn't know there was Indian Casino Gambling in South Bend, I thought there were Amish close by but not Indians. Four Winds South Bend expansion to feature 23-story hotel tower
About bye week, we have a second bye week on 10/17 between the USC game and the Michigan game. We'll probably need it.
If the new USC qb who looked so good vs Stanford is still on a tear that USC game could be very tough.
NBC announces some changes/enhancements to the Notre Dame telecasts. Chris Simms on the sideline, and SkyCam at the line of scrimmage. They will again offer a 4K feed for Directv Customers. I've seen the games in 4K, really great color that's for sure. NBC SPORTS KICKS OFF 29TH SEASON OF NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL COVERAGE THIS SATURDAY
Paul Hornung placed the first legal bet in the Horseshoe Casino Southern Indiana, at Elizabeth. Ironic only in that he lost a full season of his NFL (along with Alex Karas) because he placed a bet. He was allowed back to play on the condition he not be involved with anyone betting on football, that he not go to Las Vegas and he not go to the Kentucky Derby. Of course now the NFL is going to have a franchise in Vegas and Sports Books all over the country take bets on Pro Football. Paul Hornung placing ceremonial first bet at Indiana sports book
if he comes back it will probably be after game #4. I'm looking for a better performance out of the team veterans at all position and something more from our young RBs.
Well we lead 38-7 at halftime, but it doesn't really feel like we played all that well. Where is our running game, sure we've had some injuries, but none of them on the OL. We should still have been able to run the ball almost at will against UNM. As it was it was 7 carries for the RB's for 8 yards. That's terrible even against a quality opponent much less UNM. Defense has 3 picks, but they've also given up 156 yds rushing to UNM. The offense was big play, I wish we'd had a sustained drive mostly running the ball.
I agree Terry, it still doesn't feel like the offense that we were promised though. I am still looking for that offense that 'plays fast' that they kept talking about in the pre-season.
I get the feeling they are holding back for Georgia. (My first post after 20 years of lurking.) Really enjoy this crew.
