Well I almost hate to start this topic. I'm still bummed over the Northwestern loss. Golson has a shoulder sprain but Kelly says he's OK Sheldon Day and Daniel Cage are having MRI's on knee sprains so most likely won't be 100% and if they play might be tenative fearing further injury. Louisville lost their starting QB, but the guy who is going to replace him is a running threat and even though he's a freshman our run defense is so bad right now he scares the hell out of me. Louisville defense is pretty stout, might be tough to run on and that results in the game being pretty much on Golsons shoulders...that scares me. Play clean and I think we can beat these guys, will have to outscore them but I think we can beat them. But if we continue to turn the ball over like we have another L is on the horizon. Nyles Morgan...Bobby Petrino loves you man.
Not a lot of interest in this game...says a lot about the expectations going forward. There are rumors that there will be a "Sea of Red" in ND stadium this saturday. I'll bet if there is they won't have to even pay face value.
When you said "Sea of Red" my memory flashed back to the Nebraska Game in 2000. Now THAT was a sea of red. I had two tickets about 2/3 up in the old section near the 50 yard line on the visitors' side. I didn't give a second's thought to selling them and was really pissed at the weasel ND fans who did. I've never forgotten it and have understood since then that ND fans are not nearly as loyal as they would have you believe. Of course, that was during a dark period for our football program, but I don't consider that an excuse. Let's see if the "loyal" ND fans decide to sell out again.
I'm interested. I missed this section. This now, obviously, becomes the most important game of the year. Winning out will still give us a chance at a decent bowl game. If we just stop coughing it up, I think we've got a good chance.
Cold and Rainy in South Bend for Saturday, probably not as cold as the Stanford game though..but still crap weather. Thank goodness we have Turf now, I can't imagine what the field would look like if we didn't have turf.
Interesting article about the disappointments in the 2011 recruiting class (which has led to the lack of field leadership in 2014): http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...m=newsletter&utm_campaign=notre-dame-football
I think this team really could have used a guy like Tony Springman. I think that guy would have been a leader.
In other news...Irish Men beat Coppin State by a bunch, not surprising and really doesn't mean anything. Irish Women on the other hand went to E. Lansing and beat ranked (#17) Mich State team. Irish Women are very young and no doubt will miss Kayla McBride, but Jewell Lloyd will likely be a 1st Team AA and Briana Turner looks like the type of player who could be freshman of the year in the ACC. I doubt if we go undefeated in the regular season, but we should have a great shot at the ACC Championship and another high NCAA seed. They have games with UConn and Tenn along with Michigan, Kansas and UCLA...very much diferent from the Men's non-conference schedule.
Stanford women beat UConn. I don't know what that means this early in the season, but it doesn't bother me to see UConn lose.
I don't think it means much Sid, UConn lost a couple of key Sr's from last years squad and it's early. I expect UConn to win a ton of games this year and be a high seed. It really is sort of an oddity that any basketball team makes it through the season undefeated, mens or womens team.
Kelly is going to burn Jay Hayes red shirt and that has NDNation/fans pretty upset. I'm not really sure what I think. If 3 years from now he's played so well we wish we had him back for 1 more (5th year), chances are he might be headed to the NFL anyway. Besides we don't red shirt, right?
You mean Kelly didn't consult first with NDN? That's as bad as Obama making immigration policy without consulting congress. Is NDN calling for impeachment? Kelly:
 re: Jay Hayes You gotta do what you gotta do. He's on the team, he's good, he's needed right now. "Luck" is where preparation meets opportunity. ANY coach would put him in there. His time is now.
Kelly is in a pickle for sure with the depth on defense. You have to figure that Van Gorder and Mike Elston (DL Coach) had to have thought pretty carefully about whether or not Hayes could help win these last 2 games and the bowl rather than just shuffle Rochelle to the inside and save Hayes red shirt. The criticism they will face is that 1) he has a great game....why didn't you play him earlier!! 2) He sucks...why did you play him he's not ready and you burned his red shirt you idiots
The guy who everybody thinks will bail on ND before Nat'l Signing day....Jerry Tillery will be at the Louisville game. I was listening to Irish Illustrated pod cast...they talked about Jeff Quinn, Kelly's old OC/OL coach from Cincy being available and would Kelly make a move to bring him on to the staff. Would be tough to let Harry Heistand go since he's done such a great job recruiting, but this years OL has been such a disappointment that you wonder. It's always possilbe that Denbrock would get a HC offer from a MAC or CUSA team and that would leave it open for Quinn...but again Quinn is an OL coach so unless you can have an OCoord who doesn't coach a position, Denbrock coaches WR's....then HH would have to go.
ND <t>Well I'd like to say we will win this game and I honestly think we can if we DONT HAVE TURNOVERS!</t>
