Well it's the final home game for Tommy Rees and a number of other guys as well. I hope Tommy has a great game and gets a standing ovation when he and his parents are introduced. I don't think BYU is as good as they looked vs Texas early in the season but they are a solid football team and we will have to play well to win. Tommy will need to be the good Tommy and we will have to run the ball for at least 150 yds. Our defense has to be able to control the BYU qb who is a strong runner and an improving passer, this is the type of QB who has given us a lot of problems starting with the kid from Temple.
As of yesterday, this is a pick'em game. I honestly don't know how to prdict this one.. The differnce between 9-3 and 7-5 with this team is microscopic.
BYU coach and players looking for revenge vs the Irish this weekend. They felt like they should have won that game last year. BYU Looking For Revenge
I'd cheer louder than anyone else there for the kid. He's given everything he has and then some. Some kids are put in really bad positions because the expectations outweigh their ability. That's not his fault. Contrary to what a lot of you may think, I feel horrible for the kid. He's the great white hope on the team. The Charmin crutch. The Coach's son. The gym rat. None of the applied labels are applicable and no one seems to care. The kid that so many read so much into, and he's handled it as best he could. I honestly believe all parties will be better off when this is in the rearview mirror. He's a kid with MAC ability, but his heart is all Irish. I'll always respect that about the kid.. even when, in 10 years time, people wax poetic about the 'great passer' Tommy Rees. He'll have earned that, at least.
Nice commentary, Corey. We kid, but I know you are a Notre Dame man and that you respect Rees as the same.
I think Nix will play, not sure if he's 100%, same thing for Day. Ishaq will be back as well, again probably not 100%. A couple of other walking wounded guys will probably be late week decisions. Somebody is in a boot, is it Kona?
Going to be a cold Sat in South Bend, Snow is a possibility ...but since the teams are ND and BYU it's business as usual. Trivia...this is the latest game in South Bend since the Rutgers game in 2002. BTW: Krebs how are the RU fans? Restless about the team/coach?
Irish pickup another Ft. Wayne kid in Drew Tranquill, can play S or maybe grow into a LB. Sid what kind of school is Ft. Wayne Carroll? Drew Tranquill
Actually, his first name is spelled D-R-U-E. He's been a TD and rushing machine at RB, which is typical of elite DB recruits. Carroll's a decent program but not one of the top programs in the Ft. Wayne area. As you may already know, he committed to Purdue a few months ago, then ND made a run at him. Supposedly he has the frame to make him a possibility at inside or outside LB. Side note: In reading an update on his ND trip a while back, he really liked spending time with Cam McDaniel. Both he and Cam are Christians.

Golson <r>Golson has reapplied:<br/> <br/> <URL url="http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/24249315/brian-kelly-says-everett-golson-has-reapplied-to-notre-dame"><LINK_TEXT text="http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootbal ... notre-dame">http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/24249315/brian-kelly-says-everett-golson-has-reapplied-to-notre-dame</LINK_TEXT></URL></r>
Wouldn't it be a kick in the you know where if Golson was denied? I don't think it happens of course, but Kelly would probably quit if he didn't get him back. He's pretty much betting the 2014 season on Golson being the QB and being much better than he was in 2012. The roster behind him has zero playing time in college, and a raw true freshman. No Tommy in the bullpen. I've read several articles on Drue Tranquill, looks like he would be an awesome safety, fast and hard hitting, but we are so desperate at inside backer that he may have to bulk up and play there. I've also read that Kelly intends to have Golson back with the team for the Bowl game and practicing. No doubt wants to start as soon as possible in getting him reintegrated with the squad.
I hope Golson can live up to the expectations that many are putting on him. On BGI they are treating him like MacArthur returning to the Phillipines.
I don't read BGI or those sites, but I can imagine. I don't even see the guy as 'the answer' but if we're running an offense that requires this type of QB than I want to start running it with the right guys.
