I can't figure out BC this year, they were supposed to be down, but right now they sit at 5-2 and just kicked the crap out of NC State. They have a RB who ran for 280yds or something like that, but their QB play has been not good. I think against VaTech he had an incredibly bad game, of course our defense is not to be confused with Va.Tech. The bottom line is we need to not just beat these guys but we really need some style points. Whether or not our defense will be up to stopping that BC RB I don't know. But this will be the worst QB we've faced all year, so maybe our DB's can have a great game!
Wildcat: We have now used 3 guys to run the Wildcat. Golden Tate, Armando Allen and John Goodman. Goodman intrigues me because he was a HS QB last year so we know he can throw out of the formation, plus on the one run he looked pretty decent. Seems like with him back there the defense has to give more respect to him throwing the ball than running the ball. Of course Tate and Allen should be more effective running the ball, but the defense doesn't really have to give much thought to the pass with those guys. I'll be interested if in going forward we see Goodman more in the wildcat.
Seems to me we might have tried the wildcat on 3rd and 2 and 4th and 1. Oh well, might as run straight ahead and give the ball up on downs.
Hey I'll make a side bet with you that you will not bet the max points on BC this week. Devil Dog Dare You to even try!
Montrel Harris, that's the kid who set a school record for BC against NC State. The Irish defense has to stop the BC run, they really don't have a great passing game, that will be the key to the game. Assuming that we don't come out in some sort of daze, emotionally hung over from the USC loss our offense should be able to score 30+ points on the BC. This is the next "biggest" game for Charlie Weis as will all them from now till the end of the season. Each one being a referendum on whether he should stay or be fired. BC is of course a special thorn in our side, and it would be very helpful if not only do we get the win of course but hang a big number on them, no last minute heroics as exciting as they are please!
Just thinking about this... With the exception of the Nevada game...every Irish game has gone down to the last play. UM- Forcier TD MSU-McCarthy INT Wash-OT McCarthy knockout Purdue-Rudolph USC-incomplete pass Talk about excitement. Here's to less excitement and more big wins in the 2nd half of the season! '
Good story about Charlie Weis and BC Linebacker Mark Herzlich who had to miss this season while undergoing cancer treatment (Ewings Sarcoma). There are lots of stories like this about Weis, going all the way back to the kid Montana who was the one who asked Charlie to "Pass Right" and died a couple of days later. Charlie and Maura recently had a grand opening for homes that Hannah and Friends foundation paid for in the South Bend area for special needs adults. Charlie certainly gets a lot of criticism for his coaching but this part of Charlies life he's a champion. Charlie and the BC Linebacker Also on a unrelated note Purdue and Notre Dame have signed to extend our scheduling agreement through something like 2024. There has been much talk and discussion over the ND schedule. There is a group that wants to either move Mich State and Purdue to later in the year so that we could replace them with teams from the B12 or SEC or drop them so we can do the same if they won't move. I lost the link but I did see one where only 1 Purdue game was moved and it was the 2011 game from 9-3 to 10-1. Not sure why. But all the rest were in Sept. I do believe that MSU is now on a 4 years on and 2 years off with regard to the schedule. Personally I think we need to continue to schedule B10 teams and since B10 teams all now play non-conf games late in the year, for example Ohio State now plays New Mexico State on Oct 31st. There was a time when B10 teams wouldn't play out of conference after Sept. So there is opporunity to play just about any B10 team in Oct or Nov. Bottom line some were happy to continue the series with Purdue and some were unhappy that we didn't force them into a series like we now have with MSU or get them to play us later in the year. Terry
With the addition of a 12th game, and an odd number of teams in the Big Ten there is room for noncon games later in the season. In the years that we don't play MSU do we pick up another BT team like Northwestern or do we just play Mich. and Purdue?
Charlie is a good guy. His actions constantly refute the 2nd hand testimony of already questionable people who have their own agenda. That being said, what's up with the Big10? I thought we had to schedule our games with them before they started conference play? I see lots of these teams now playing fluffers after they started their conference schedule. Was there a rule change? Can we now have some flexibility in scheduling them?
RE: B10. I think it was the addition of the 12th game that changed things for the B10. All B10 teams now play non-conference games in late Oct/Nov. There used to be an unwritten rule that the weekend of the OSU/UM game was the end of the season for B10 schools but several B10 schools are playing the weekend after that. Also there is a rumour that ND is going to put Western Michigan on the 2010 schedule. I hope that is not true. We have never played a MAC team and I really don't want to start.
No longer a rumour. Western Michigan it is, I guess the Bobda household now has two games that are personal! I must say this is the weakest ND schedule in my memory, of the 12 games only 7 are against BCS conference foes. I can't remember when we had less. Of course even with that it's tougher than a Boise State schedule. 2010 Schedule Sept. 4 PURDUE (NBC) Sept. 11 MICHIGAN (NBC) Sept. 18 at Michigan State Sept. 25 STANFORD (NBC) Oct. 2 at Boston College Oct. 9 PITTSBURGH (NBC) Oct. 16 W. MICHIGAN (NBC) Oct. 23 vs. Navy* Oct. 30 TULSA (NBC) Nov. 13 UTAH (NBC) Nov. 20 vs. Army (NBC) Nov. 27 at Southern California Home games in CAPS *At New Meadowlands Stadium; East Rutherford, N.J. ^At Yankee Stadium; New York
I guess all the Rumpelstiltskins over on NDNation are jumping up and down in a fit of anger. Maybe they all will cause a big hole in the floor and disappear into it like in the fairy tale. They not all are like that, e.g., Terry, but the main clique is a bunch of loudmouthed idiots who can't think past the tips of their noses. They are social misfits who have found comfort in clone attitudes and they continually masturbate their anger in front of each other. Terry, get off the complaint train while you can. Our schedule is not weak. Anyone who says it is is full of crap.
I'm sorry, Terry, but I'm not going to stand for the kind of unwarranted criticism of the AD and the administration that the NDN idiots consistently spew. If they don't have something to complain about they experience shortness of breath. The alumni among them are an embarrassment to the university, and while opinions are free, they arrogantly set themselves apart from the vast majority of reasonably intelligent alumni who support ND football for all the right reasons. You want a schedule with 100% BCS conference opponents? OK. The non-BCS teams on the 2010 schedule are: W. Michigan - Ask Colorado (a BCS conference team) about how Toledo dropped 54 points on them. Then ask Toledo about how W. Michigan dropped 58 points on Toledo. Navy - Any questions about why we play them? Army - Currently weak, yes, but a dignified and respected program. Tulsa - Competitive. A benchmark game to see how we play them relative to their other BCS opponents. Utah - Any questions about their competitiveness? Now here's a list of 12 BCS conference teams you can choose from to replace the 5 non-BCS opponents. Let me know who you come up with to make the schedule "stronger" in your eyes. Make sure you choose impressive names like Duke, Illinois, Maryland, etc., to replace the mundane names like W. Michigan, Tulsa, etc., so we won't face embarrassment in the eyes of the outside world for scheduling programs that are "beneath" our status as a historically great program. NC State Duke* Maryland Baylor* Iowa State Colorado Louisville Syracuse* Indiana* Illinois* Wash. State* Vanderbilt * Either currently on our schedule or on past schedules
