In Yankee Stadium. I'm sure this brings back many memories for Jif. No doubt sitting by the wireless listening to ND hero's Johnny Lujack and Leon Hart duel the Army before big sellout crowds!!

I found this tidbit to be interesting about Col. Earl "Red" Blaik.
Interesting that USMA would require it's coach to be an active member of the Army. Not really suprised about height/weight restrictions, but given the size of football players back in those days I have to wonder what they were.

Anyway, I was against this game when it was announced as Army hasn't been any good in years, and why play a game in Yankee Stadium in November. I just couldn't see the point. But as it turns out this game is very important for the Irish, win and we go to a bowl a prospect that seemed out the window last monday.

Also very big game for Diaco, as I said his defense was so horrible against Navy and his explanation made it even worse so this is redemption time for him. I haven't seen Army play, I do see that they are better record wise than recent teams and all, but I don't think they are as good as Navy. So hopefully our defense having already seen the service academy option once this season will be ready and stuff it. Coach D says that Diaco has actually done a good job with the defense if you ignore the Navy game.

    Go Irish!

Saw an interview with Lou Holtz where he was asked how he defended the option. Lou said he didn't defend it, he attacked it. I believe he spent some time with Kelly last week. I hope that they went over their battle plan against Army.
And unlike Doc, I just love this game. The subway alumni will be able to attend by......SUBWAY, imagine that. We've been getting recruits out of NJ for a while and I see we're getting Hanratty out of Conn. Should be a great time for the Irish faithful in the NYC area. I like this idea a lot better than playing in San Antonio :)

    Bowl Talk for Irish!

Most likely destination is the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco. Apparently the PAC10 faces a derth of bowl eligible teams and could possibly only have 3 teams (Oregon, Stanford and Arizona).

The above is from a SBT article.

    ND Bowl

Well if Kelly loses to both Navy and Army this year, we may have a new coach next year too. :)

    Just kidding Sid.

If we were to lose to Army I don't even want to see what Sids Avatar looks like! 8)

I'll be interested in seeing what type of crowd shows up for the game. We had a little over 50K for the Irish in San Antonio. It was indoors and warm and snuggly. I was able to play a round of golf the morning of the game at a very nice Hill Country course. Wonder what they'll be doing in the Big Apple.

One thing that is a positive is that Ishaq Williams a highly regarded recruit from Brooklyn (how weird is that) and Savon Huggins a highly regarded NJ recruit will be at the game. Maybe they'll be inspired to cast their lots with the Irish and not decomit later on!! :!: :!:

I know the option like the back of my hand. I played and coached it, both for and against.

The key to stopping it is discipline. The D-Linemen must plug the holes between the tackles. That stops the dive back. A D-End or more likely a LB in the 3-4 must hit the QB coming down the line EVERY play. And the CBs must play tight and take the pitch back. And they have to be sure tacklers.

That's what Holtz meant by attacking the option. Navy beat us because our corners play soft and our interior D-linemen stand up. This is a whole new ball game.

I've heard the ticket prices were pretty high what did you pay? I'll be very curious as to what the attendance turns out to be. Gipper referred to the Subway being able to see them, but the question is will the Subways be able to afford to see them.

I'm the option Nazi and I will be watching Diaco. I've seen zero evidence that he knows anything about stopping the option attack. Like George, in the old days we ran an option attack too and I turned off the Navy game at halftime, because I knew it was a lost cause. Diaco had no clue. If he can't do better against Army then he should be shown to the door...

We play our corners so far off the LOS that we sometimes look like we are playing two men short. That is s ideally suited for the option offense to have a big day.

Army can't beat us with the pass so it better be nine in the box....
