I thought I'd scoop Terry and start a new seasonal topic. The first item: Corey Robinson has retired from football because of concussions. He will work with the team as a student assistant. http://www.wndu.com/content/sports/Notre-Dames-Corey-Robinson-retires-from-football-383144181.html
I really like this young man. He's special. He will be successful outside of sports no doubt. His dad should be proud.
I'm sorry that concussions have forced his retirment. He's a great kid, and as others have he's destined to be somebody. He'll be president of the student body at ND this year. Good luck to him, I'll be looking for him to do great things. Also the Irish Invasion Camp is coming soon and hopefully it will be successful in helping kids see ND and the opportunity that exists for athletes who desire to be great and desire to get a quality education. Kelly had some things to say this week and they were all positive, guys are healing and hopefully we'll be at full strength this fall. Devin Butler is the exception, I feel bad for the kid. He'd recovered from one injury only to have another injury. He might never again be in the position to start at ND, the young guys behind him are pretty good.
ND <t>Robinson is a terrific young man. Sorry to hear he won't be playing anymore. He's smart, comes from a great family obviously and will do well whatever he decides to do in the future.</t>
Picked up a couple of kids from the Irish Invasion. A DE from Fla named MacCollister, who is a 3 star and another kid from Fla in WR Jordan Pouncey. Pouncey has a lot of speed. Big target everybody is hoping for is CJ Holmes from Conn, the kid wowed everybody at the Camp and said he's a star. Reports are pretty positive that he's leaning to ND. Also the St. Brown brothers were at the Invasion and they both looked great, Osiris is in 2017 and Aman-Ra the youngest (2018) looked the best of all. Hope they got good scoop from their brother! I do have to wonder why the Irish Invasion was scheduled for Fathers Day Weekend? It was a big success though, but it would seem to me that it would be one of those weekends you'd avoid for something like this.
2018 RB Markese Stepp, 6'0", 205, from Indpls. Cathedral commits to ND. Here's the article: http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/high-school/2016/06/19/stepp-commits-notre-dame/86125006/
Good early pickup for 2018, one could say it's a Stepp in the right direction! I'm looking for some big uglies from Harry Heistand in the next few months. He's been excellent in rebuilding our OL through recruiting.
Another commit from the Irish Invasion. 4* Texas DB Paulson Adebo from Mansfield Texas. Very good pickup for the Irish. 6-2 and fast, could be a shutdown corner!
Sid I see that Cathedral wears gold helmets and gold pants...so it's an easy move for those kids to ND!
Yes. Cathedral actually was founded by the Brothers of the Holy Cross in 1918 (looked up the year on Wikipedia). In the 1970s, when the order decided to leave the school. a local group was formed to keep the school open. The original connection with ND via the Holy Cross order is how the school got its nickname, the Irish, its school colors, and its fight song. That's your history lesson for today.
ND <t>Sorry I haven't been able to post much lately but I'm really happy about Irish recruiting lately. Got Viral Conjunctivitis and its left me with blurred vision which is finally starting to clear. Been home not able to work over a week now but....starting to get some vision back now.</t>
Irish get a couple of 2018 verbals from two brothers (twins) from NJ. Justin and Jayson Ademiola, one is a DE and the other is an OLB. They go to well known Catholic prep school, St. Peters. Parker Beaudreaux is in the hospital in South Bend with an undisclosed condition and is stable and should recover. Reports are that it was viral meningitis.
Oh yeah, Tori Hunter Jr signed with the Angels over the weekend. He really hasn't played much baseball since High School and he was a very late round draft pick by the Angels, no doubt his dad having played for them was a factor. He'll play his Sr. season of football at ND this fall. No reports as to whether or not he'll play in the Angels organization this summer though. It seems a little unlikely as he will only have July to play before ND fall camp opens in August. Although this article from the Orange County Register seems to indicate otherwise. http://www.ocregister.com/articles/angels-720620-escobar-hunter.html
Apparently Notre Dame and Michigan will resume playing in football with the 2018/2019 seasons. An official announcement will reportedly be made this afternoon. Since the last game was in South Bend I assume that the next game will be in Ann Arbor. I have mixed feelings about the series myself. It was always one of the top early season matchups in college football though, and usually produced incredibly exciting games. So I think many ND and Mich fans will welcome it back and so will the TV people! $$$
I guess we'll have to put up with Harbaugh's BS (Sorry, Bobda, no disrespect to you intended). Oh well, the football world wants the game. They'll have it.
An aside, Oliver Luck will be the guest speaker at our Parrish 50th Anniv blowout dinner/dance. His son is of course Andrew Luck. They lived in our Parrish and of course Andrew went to the public HS in our Parrish. I didn't know he was a member though. Of course it's possible that he wasn't a member, and is just speaking but somehow I think he must have a connection to the Parrish to be asked to Speak. Andrew was in South Bend recently for a football camp and some of the kids of course were wearing ND tee-shirts and hats. He commented, good naturedly, that he had strong dislike for ND. But being a Stanford grad I could understand that, it's a pretty strong football rivalry now days.
The video of Andrew at the South Bend camp was shown on local sports. I thought it was funny. Andrew Luck is so likeable that I could not be mad at him for verbalizing his dislike for ND.
