Wow this place goes moribund if I don't post something about the fightin Irish. "Everyone who jumped on the Notre Dame bandwagon early last year quickly abandoned ship at the end after blowout losses to USC and LSU. Most ignored the horrible secondary and the potential for a bad year from the offensive line when setting the national title expectations; it was almost like many were trying to will Notre Dame to greatness. Now the hype and focus has swung the other way. Now it’s become fashionable to rip on the Irish." In any event check out the link because kudos are appropriately given to CW on his job so far in SB. http://cfn.scout.com/2/658031.html
If we can develop a good kicking game we can win 8-9 games. Lousy kickoffs and coverage along with no FG threat beyond 40 yards made a riverboat gambler out of Weis last year and by about the the 8th game of the year teams were on to us. A good kicker, like a coat of paint, can cover a lot of sins. That was a very fair appraisal of the Irish in that article.
As I recall, most ND fans knew about the team s defensive problems going into the season. It was the national media that put the unrealistic expectations on the Irish season. The high ranking put a target on the team and made for a "disappointing" season when they only ended up in a BCS bowl. Then again only ND could have a QB who "lost" the Heisman in the third game of the year after going 24/48 for 234 yds and 3 TDs to a QB who in his biggest game went 4/14 for 35 yds. and 0 TDs
"The high ranking put a target on the team and made for a "disappointing" season when they only ended up in a BCS bowl." Gipper....I think the way in which LSU manhandled the Irish in that BCS bowl was the defining memory of most folks for ND's season. If ND makes a game of that then the perspective is different. That's a big "ouch" on the Troy Smith comment. 8)
BT....nice to see you surfacing. I do understand the pain...believe me I do. ( Scr*w you Osborne ) In any event the future is of course bright for OSU due to: 1.) Booster money for the program 2). Jim Tressel - ( who will learn from Glendale ) 3.) THE most passionate fan base in the Big Ten
