Shamrock Series, Soldier Field, unique and controversial uniforms for ND....hopefully a good result. You might not know but we are undefeated in the Shamrock Series. Def WSU in San Antonio in 2009 Def Army in Yankee Std in 2010 Def Maryland in DC in 2011 2012? Uniforms
I saw Kelly interviewed on Game Day yesterday. They asked him about the Shamrock unis. He said that they do it for the recruits. I think he's doing a good job on the recruiting trail. Hey, if unis for one game every year make a difference, I'm all for it. I think that the helmets may be a distraction to keep people from thinking about the economy.
I'm OK with the uniforms, I see so many special uniforms that are butt ugly that what's the difference. Watching some of the Wisc/Neb game I thought OMG those are awful. Back to Miami. They have given up a lot of points and most teams have been able to run the ball on them so I hope we can as well. But they also have the best passing game that we have faced, their QB has a strong and accurate arm and while I don't know their roster, they usually have big fast WR's. This will be a huge test for our inexperienced DB's. Hopefully of course our front 7 will put a lot of pressure on the Miami QB and sack him a few times and in general disrupt their passing game. If they don't I fear they could score points in bunches.
According to my Weather Channel app the high Sat. In Chicago will be 51. It's supposed to get down into the mid 30's that night. That might effect the game.
Hopefully our QB from South Carolina is acclimated to the cold by now! I don't want to see our QB from Illinois!
I'm sure the fans of many, many years ago didn't think so, although those fans probably would have wondered what the strange helmets were made of (vs. leather) and what were those weird attachments on the front covering the face?
This is one team who, if we get the jump on them, I would like to see Kelly light up the scoreboard like the 4th of July. Woody Hayes style.... "I went for two because they wouldn't let me go for three". 8)
LOL...I would love to see some coach say that after clearly running up the score in todays media. That would generate talk for all the Sports Networks for a week solid.
ND <r>Well it's our old friends the Miami Hurricanes. I'm pretty sure we can keep their QB from racking up 500yds on passing for one but they ARE gonna get some points. I'm also pretty sure their defense will allow us to score a few more than we have been putting up.(They gave up 600yds to NCS last week). <br/> <br/> Probably gonna be closer than I like but I still think we can come out with a win unless our defense gets overworked. <br/> <br/> It may be a home game like atmosphere for us as they are playing in Chicago but I don't think it really matters to the boys from the "U". I watched their <B><s></s>home<e></e></B> game last week and those stands were not even half full!(I'M not exaggerating) They don't seem to need a big crowd rooting for them to get them going.<br/> <br/> Also, sounds like it may be a little chilly in the Chicago area sat eve. Not as cold as it was in El Paso during the Sun bowl when we played them last but none the less, a little on the cool side.</r>
I don't think Miami has ever had big crowds, esp since they left the old Orange Bowl, unless they have a really big opponent. Ralph has sort of sketched out the problems Miami has with either an on campus stadium or one that is at least proximate to the campus. I forget the issues, maybe he'll post here and give us the details. But playing in the Dolphins stadium has to be a detrement to getting a good crowd on a regular basis.
That's kinda the thing about the U.. they don't need you, anyone or a big home crowd. They've always fed off of that 'Us vs the world' mentality. I don't expect them to be intimidated, or overwhelmed. They like to get their WRs in man matchups in space. They draw you in on the nickle and dime with a designed post or go route on every play for the HR in case you're cheating. We'll have to match man up on them and hit their QB a lot. The hype machine and the alums will not let the young men on either side forget about games that took place before some of them were born. This should be interesting.
I will not lie, I would really like to win this game against the Irish but it's not me playing and if it was we would surely lose. Out of shape almost 50 year olds are yesterdays news if that... First the weather is going to be a rude awakening if the 36 degree temps hold true, it was 106 on the field in Miami on Saturday with everyone cramping including the coaches from both sides. We are currently experiencing tropical rains ahead of a cold front this week that will never reach us and it is a cool "83" degrees 200 miles North of Miami where I live. It's much warmer in Miami at the moment but wet so temperature shock will be an issue much less just how the ball feels in your hand. The team has had to practice in rain and will until they head north into the what we would consider the outer rim of the arctic. As I mentioned in other post I have really enjoyed watching this young team grow from week to week. But we have yet to play all four quarters in a game this year for all kinds of reasons. I expect your depth and experience to show itself early and the eventually dominate. We may make this exciting at times for football fans but if I was your coaching staff I would memorize the Kansas St. film and do the same things they did to bring us out of our game and expose our youth and lack of depth. As far as no fan support for Miami that is what separates us from most schools, it doesn't matter. The city of Miami being the armpit it is in my opinion will always be Dolphins first then all other sports according to the winning ways of whatever team it may be. You can lay on the beach and enjoy half nude woman to all nude woman most days of the year, catch a Marlins game, watch the World champion Heat play or enjoy a hockey game. If that does not work you can drive 42 miles to Dolphin stadium and watch the Hurricanes play through horrendous traffic in another county that seats 75-80,000 seats for your 10,500 students that make up the University of Miami. It is as far away from a college town as you can get except for maybe USC or UCLA. We have won 5 National Championships in spite of the coaches using us as a springboard to more lucrative spots in the NFL. The coach usually did not really matter once the core of talent was in place and coming every year. What is really needed is a 45-50,000 seat stadium on campus to coincide with Miami's student population but the land and parking is too costly to ever see that happen. An example is Miami being one of the hotbeds of talent for high school talent in America only has 6 yes 6 stadiums to play football in. Even though they have something like 38 8A schools at this time not counting the 6A,5A,4A and smaller schools. The cost is just too high to build stadiums because of the land price.`
Oh yeah just to add fuel to the fire.... http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/um-hurricanes/fl-dave-hyde-jimmy-johnson-notre-dame-um-1002-20121001,0,285435.column "Scrawny Lou Holtz" Too damn funny to a Cane fan
I've heard it said that true character shows through in adversity. Jimmy Johnson shows his true character over and over again when he describes his feelings about that game. He was an asshole then, he is an asshole now, and he always will be an asshole.
I don't believe the cold weather will be a factor in this game, it won't be snowing just cold and we aren't talking frozen tundra cold like NFL teams experience in the playoffs in Green Bay, Chicago, Buffalo, New York or New England. Miami players have historically traveled well to all areas of the country and our Fla players at ND have always adapted well to the cold weather. I also would throw away that KState game tape and not show it to our team. I would do that for a number of reasons, first we are a completely different team than KState, their QB is a big physical kid who has been a bull running the ball his whole career, Golson is just the opposite. Also Miami has improved since that game, they have gained offensive confidence and while our defense has played great they haven't faced a team with the speed on the outside that Miami has and a QB who has the strong arm and accuracy to get the ball to them. I think this will be a tough hard fought game, and one that if we don't get going offensively we could easily lose.
