I never thought I would see this day. The NCAA just recommended that the Irish vacate every win from both the 2012 and 2103 seasons for a student trainer infraction where it was discovered that the trainer wasdoing the actuial assignments for six players at that time. We also get a years probation beginning today and other fabulous going away prizes. That is all the details at this time.
George, Kp raised the question on another topic as to why it took so long? That part does not make sense to me either. Penalties assessed affect current players who were not even in the program back then.
Actually the way it is worded current players will not be impacted. As MCG pointed out, the probation will end before the 2017 Bowl season. The bitter pill is vacating the wins from 2012 and 2013. The rest of the sanctions are mainly targeted at the Ath Trainer who cheated.
Corey may be on to something... My guys get busted for both of those things, and we're struggling to compete too!
Not the best of years for Domers. This is the second time that player's girlfriends have gotten the football program in trouble. Maybe incoming recruits should have to take a vow of chastity. When I told Mary that the players had their girlfriends write papers for them she turned and said, "things haven't changed 1 bit."
Just saw this and am pretty shocked. Vacating wins from 2012 and 2013 doesn't mean a whole lot though.
If vacating wins isn't a big deal, then why did Penn State fight so hard to get wins restored and their probation reduced?
It is the exclamation point on maybe the most disastrous year in ND football history ever. Starting with five players arrested with a gun present, a completely preventable QB crisis, the D- Coordinator shown the door mid-season, really poor level of play against an extremely light schedule and now this. What USC may do to us is almost of no concern at this point. Probable 4-8 finish, likely the coach will leave, recruiting fall out and the early Exodus to the NFL of at least two players and maybe some transfers as well. Now that's the aura is off, its time for ND to decide what they want to be in the future of the football landscape and pursue it. Whatever it is, clean house and move forward.
Hopefully for Notre Dame, nothing bad happens while on probation, but you're correct nothing too bad for the players, except now they have to write their own papers
