I think it's time to start this topic since fall practice has started. Either that or I'm just ready for some Football!!! I'm watching the player videos from after practice yesterday and was struck particularly by Malik Zaire. I guess I have never heard him speak much before I heard this, and I should have known since after all he is a ND athlete, he is a well spoken young man. Has nothing to do with whether or not he plays football well but refreshing to me.
Tim, speaking of impressive young men, this past week my son, Brian, attended a dinner given by the ND Investment Group for monogram winners in the financial field. One of the speakers was Matthias Farley. Brian rarely speaks in superlatives, but he was very impressed by this young man, his personal story, and how he conducted himself in front of the audience.
  Kelly impressed with the frosh WRs like Miles Boykin (6'4") and frosh QB Brandon Wimbush, who apparently has a very good arm. BTW- USC's top running back recruit just decommitted and has opened up his recruitment to Notre Dame. His name is Melquise Stovall and he's a 4-Star TB from Paraclete HS. That's a Catholic school out here in the desert. http://usc.247sports.com/Bolt/Four-star-RB-Stovall-officially-reopens-recruitment-38635229
ND <t>I'd love to be able to get Stovall for sure. I think if they can get him to visit SB it' a strong possibility.<br/> <br/> <br/> It's no secret I've been a Wimbush fan from the time he commited. He's the real deal. Look for him to be 2nd string ahead of Kiser soon. <br/> <br/> Look for Alize Jones to be on the field first game of the season. <br/> <br/> Justin Yoon appears to be as advertised....very good.</t>
You get the pretty boy QBs from California. The Jersey QBs can actually deliver the mail. Know what I'm sayin' , Tim? 8)
Well we are off and running, I read the camp reports and they all seem disjointed, the guys all look great or they are getting yelled at by the coaches. Zaire makes some great throws or he throws them into the dirt. Kizer looks good, Winbush looks good. WR's depth is so good likely no Fr. will see the playing field. Joe Schmidt is the leader we've needed, he's the smartest MLB ever at ND. OL is great or needs to work on their footwork, DL is great or needs to do something. LB's are speedy or they need to be better at recognizing coverage. I never know what to think when reading these reports. Are we good or are we over rated. All's I know is that this team is the most anticipated team we've had at ND since the 2006 bunch with Quinn, Samarzdja, Tommy Z, etc returning with dreams of NC in their heads. Then we barely escaped from Atlanta and got hammered by Michigan. Quick end to the high hopes.
ND <t>Terry,<br/> <br/> I agree with you on the talk coming out of practice this far. Hard to figure out who to believe. I'm usually optomistic but your mention of 2006 brought back lots of memories I really don't want to think about. I do believe we have the players and depth to have a very good season, more so than 2006 even but.....its all about how the game is played on the field. One major factor that I think gives us a plus this year is leadership. We have very good leaders on this team. I think that can make a big difference for this team.</t>
One concern. Over on ISD Mike Frank has sort of called out Scott Booker the TE coach, saying that our TE's just don't look well coached and have not made much progress. Given that at least on paper we have a really highly rated bunch at TE, I'm surprised. If the TE's are not a really good group for what ever the reason, coaching or talent overrated, I'll be very disappointed.
ND <r>Man I'm glad this kid is back. He's not fast, he not that big, but he has more heart and football savvy than anyone on the team. You just can't ask for a better leader or representative of your school than Joe Schmidt. I think he's another reason we can expect a good season for the Irish. <br/> <br/> Hey JO'Co, find us some more Joe Schmidts out there in CA. <br/> <br/> <iframe width="640" height="360" src="<URL url="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2SKtaxtBlmw?feature=player_detailpage"><LINK_TEXT text="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2SKtaxtBl ... detailpage">https://www.youtube.com/embed/2SKtaxtBlmw?feature=player_detailpage</LINK_TEXT></URL>" frameborder="0"></iframe><br/> <br/> and he was a walk-on <E></E></r>
Looks like Showtime is going to do a "Hard Knocks" on ND football fall camp and it will show every Tues after the Texas game. Personally, I don't really like it. I think it's a distraction. http://footballscoop.com/news/sources-notre-dame-and-showtime-finalizing-details-of-hard-knocks-styled-series/
Terry & Sid, Times are changing and some of us older fans are being challenged to see the media become so involved. A distraction, yes in my opinion as well.
Sounds like the Longhorn Network. Big Ten Network has a new show called Scarlet and Gray Days that goes inside the Ohio State training camp. Starts Aug 19th.
Mr Gentry, Where do you think the Irish should be rated this season? Really a wide spread spread amongst the projections! :?:
