Since Aug 1st until this post, the Cards are 22-7. That's not bad. Hope this post isn't AJ's kiss of death....however, I never said they'd win it all....or did I? Break..... Sid, Wendy, (and any other lost souls).... Cubs are 10.5 back...
AJ, I waved the white flag a couple of weeks ago when it became obvious that the Cubs were in freefall. I recall that in the preseason I predicted the Cards did not have the SP to sustain a pennant drive. Of course, at the time no one knew if Carpenter was going to be able to come back from his injury, and Wainwright did not have a history of performing at a high level. I think I'll take a break from the prediction business.
It's been 45 years since the Cards and Yanks served it up in a series. That would be a fun series for me especially since my dad is a huge Yankees fan. Those would be fun phone calls. Speakin of the number 45, that was Gibsons number. Gibson schooled the Yanks in '64, the Year I was born. And I turn 45 in October, Just about the time the series gets going. Kinda Ironic.
Husker.... <t>I have been waiting for Ludwick to get going to add to this lineup. Did you see the clips of his 5/5 night and 2 homers. WOW !! Albert's homer last night left the park as fast as any I have seen.<br/> Magic number is now 17.<br/> <br/> It's football Saturday so I a fixing to crank up the Samsung after my hour walk/jog.<br/> <br/> Life is good...................................</t>
I had to catch the last few innings due to the kid's BB game last night (BTW, read my post for a good laugh) but did get to see the Cardinal wrapup show. But your right, I also was waiting for Ludwick to get a good game under his belt, and he did!! Larry, they're looking really good.
AWRIGHT!! AWRIGHT!! AWRIGHT!! DID YOU SEE HIS UNCLE CHARLIE LAST NIGHT? WOW CARDS AND YANKS 09 SERIES CARDS IN 6....YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST FOLKS... (PLEASE GOD, NO KISS OF DEATH THIS TIME...)
Speaking of baseball. I went to my first Astros game last night. It was a doozy. My butt was barely in the seat when Oswalt threw his first pitch, a gopher ball and it just got worse from there. He lasted 2 innings and they just took batting practice on him. Sad to see a once dominant pitcher just look awful, granted he's not been 100% physically this year and has been nagged by "tight" back. But he was going for his 9th win last night. He has a no trade clause in his contract, but he's been pretty vocal in the media about the year and you wonder if he's angling to get out of town. Listless crowd last night as well, and not many of us. Far cry from the dynamic finishes the Astros have had in the last 8-10 years. I have no idea what they can do to get this club going in the positive direction. Terry
Terry, I once took a guided tour of MMP. It's a great baseball venue. It's unfortunate that the team is not performing well enough to put fans in the seats. I'm guessing that the manager will be gone soon. I hope you can find a way to kick it up a notch or two next year. A good Astros team is good for MLB.
Sid, As much as I liked Kaufman Stadium, and I like the ambience of Wrigley, but really for the fan experience it's hard to beat Minute Maid. Now as for the team that resides there, not so hard to beat. Terry
