Poll: In Wake Of Scandals Americans Now Trust GOP More Than Democrats…

I don’t know why people trusted them in the first place.

    Via Washington Secrets:

The Democratic Party’s edge over the GOP on who the public trusts more on ethics and corruption issues has flipped in the wake of the IRS and Benghazi scandals, according to Rasmussen Reports.

Not only do voters trust Republicans more now, they have their highest level of confidence in the GOP and the lowest level in Democrats in seven months.

While the Democrats had an eight-point “trust advantage” over Republicans a month ago, Rasmussen’s latest poll said that edge has disappeared and now the GOP has a two-point advantage.

No Joke: Obama Promotes State Department Official Who Scrubbed Benghazi Talking Points Of References To Al-Qaeda…
    [IMG]
So Lois Lerner gets placed on administration leave and Victoria Nuland gets . . . promoted?

    Via Politico:

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration’s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs.

Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State’s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council.

Nuland’s nomination — which requires Senate confirmation — could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping the talking points that U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice used when she appeared on Sunday shows several days after the attack on a U.S. diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya, that left four Americans dead. Emails show that Nuland had “serious concerns” about an early draft of the talking points, and conveyed the State Department’s wishes that references to Al Qaida and the CIA’s warnings about the dangers to U.S. diplomats in Libya removed from the document.

Obama Delegates Holder To Investigate Holder
    [IMG]
    What could possibly go wrong?

    Via Daily Caller:

President Barack Obama has asked his friend Attorney General Eric Holder to investigate Holder’s unprecedented investigation of a Fox News reporter.

Holder approved the Justice Department’s extraordinary 2010 investigation of contacts between a Fox News reporter and a State Department official who has since been charged with leaking classified information, according to NBC.

The Justice Department searched the reporter’s e-mails and phone calls under the legal claim that he may have contributed to a crime.

The Fox News revelation followed the news that the Justice Department had investigated the phone records of reporters working for The Associated Press.

On May 24, however, Obama reacted to growing alarm in the media by asking Holder to review the Justice Department’s procedures for investigating the media.

“We must keep information secret that protects our operations and our people in the field,” the president said at a speech in Washington D.C.

“But a free press is also essential for our democracy [and] I am troubled by the possibility that leak investigations may chill the investigative journalism that holds government accountable,” he said.

“Journalists should not be at legal risk for doing their jobs … [and] I have raised these issues with the Attorney General, who shares my concern. So he has agreed to review existing Department of Justice guidelines governing investigations that involve reporters, and will convene a group of media organizations to hear their concerns as part of that review,” he said.

“I have directed the Attorney General to report back to me by July 12th.”

Associated Press Joins NY Times In Refusing To Attend Off-The-Record Meeting With Holder…
    [IMG]
According to the DNC, the AP has now “forfeited” their “right to gripe.”

    Via Politico:

The Associated Press says it will not attend this week’s off-the-record meeting with Attorney General Eric Holder unless the Justice Department decides to change its mind and conduct the meeting on the record.

“We believe the meeting should be on the record and we have said that to the Attorney General’s office. If it is on the record, AP Executive Editor Kathleen Carroll will attend. If it is not on the record, AP will not attend and instead will offer our views on how the regulations should be updated in an open letter,” AP spokesperson Erin Madigan said in a statement sent to POLITICO. “We would expect AP attorneys to be included in any planned meetings between the Attorney General’s office and media lawyers on the legal specifics.”

The AP’s decision comes over an hour after The New York Times announced that it would not be attending the meeting, citing concerns about the DOJ’s off-the-record provision.

CNN And HuffPo Join AP, NY Times In Refusing To Attend Off-The-Record Meeting With Holder – Update: Fox News Bails On Holder – Update: NBC News Says No To Holder…
    [IMG]
The lapdogs are in a mini-revolt.

Washington (CNN) - Attorney General Eric Holder’s plans to sit down with media representatives to discuss guidelines for handling investigations into leaks to the news media have run into trouble.

The Associated Press issued a statement Wednesday objecting to plans for the meetings to be off the record. “If it is not on the record, AP will not attend and instead will offer our views on how the regulations should be updated in an open letter,” said Erin Madigan White, the AP’s media relations manager.

The New York Times is taking the same position. “It isn’t appropriate for us to attend an off-the-record meeting with the attorney general,” executive editor Jill Abramson said in a statement.

Like the New York Times and the Associated Press, CNN will decline the invitation for an off-the-record meeting. A CNN spokesperson says if the meeting with the attorney general is on the record, CNN would plan to participate.

The Huffington Post’s Washington bureau chief, Ryan Grim, also said he will not attend unless the meeting is on the record. “A conversation specifically about the freedom of the press should be an open one. We have a responsibility not to betray that,” Grim told CNN.

Video: White House Spokesman Won’t Answer If Obama Will Apologize For IRS Scandal That “Apparently Occurred”…

That would require Obama take responsibility for his own administration, and we all know that’s not going to happen.

Obama Ramps Up Domestic Surveillance: Secret Court Order Requires Verizon To Hand Over All Call Records On A Daily Basis To NSA…
    [IMG]
I’m guessing the left miraculously won’t have a problem with this.

    Via Guardian:

The National Security Agency is currently collecting the telephone records of millions of US customers of Verizon, one of America’s largest telecoms providers, under a top secret court order issued in April.

The order, a copy of which has been obtained by the Guardian, requires Verizon on an “ongoing, daily basis” to give the NSA information on all telephone calls in its systems, both within the US and between the US and other countries.

The document shows for the first time that under the Obama administration the communication records of millions of US citizens are being collected indiscriminately and in bulk – regardless of whether they are suspected of any wrongdoing.

The secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (Fisa) granted the order to the FBI on April 25, giving the government unlimited authority to obtain the data for a specified three-month period ending on July 19.

Under the terms of the blanket order, the numbers of both parties on a call are handed over, as is location data, call duration, unique identifiers, and the time and duration of all calls. The contents of the conversation itself are not covered.

The disclosure is likely to reignite longstanding debates in the US over the proper extent of the government’s domestic spying powers.

Under the Bush administration, officials in security agencies had disclosed to reporters the large-scale collection of call records data by the NSA, but this is the first time significant and top-secret documents have revealed the continuation of the practice on a massive scale under President Obama.

The unlimited nature of the records being handed over to the NSA is extremely unusual. Fisa court orders typically direct the production of records pertaining to a specific named target who is suspected of being an agent of a terrorist group or foreign state, or a finite set of individually named targets.

Remember when the lib/Dems were screaming about "warrantless wiretaps?" That was when the Bush Administration wanted to listen in on known foreign terrorists calling into the United States. The Obama/Chicago Machine......drunk with power......listens to millions of telephone calls of average Americans, within the Unites States. Even the far-Left New York Times and people like Al Gore have lost faith in the golfer-in-chief...

I think it's a damn good thing they started this data collection in April. Now they can find out who the bastard was that leaked the top secret court order to the public! haHA! Bet you didn't see THAT one coming...Obama actually appears to have planned ahead this time. ;)
