    The 6-foot-3, 315-pound DT Nix from Jacksonville, Fl did just that, giving his pledge to Alford and the Irish, even with Notre Dame currently sitting without a head coach.

    There are few recruits that excite me, Nix is one of them. Not that he's any sorta 5-star Manti type but he's the type of Dlineman that ND MUST (and I mean MUST) nab in each recruiting class if they want to return to greatness.

    That way, you can whiff on every all-planet-espn-teenbeat magazine 5 star stud pony that middle aged men continue to take disturbing obsession with and you will still have a great to good defensive line.

    If you remember...my new theory/measuring stick is that ND's great teams all have very good to great defensive lines.. They are the one thing we've lacked since the early to mid 90s.

    That's a good pickup. I think he was committed to the University of Miami wasn't he?

    <t>Isn't this exactly the kind of player they said ND can't get? How many ESPN/FOX etc. talking heads have I heard say the reason ND can't compete at the elite level is they can't get these big D-linemen and they can't get these kids from the southern states. yeah right....anymore reasons ND can't return to prominence. <br/>
    <br/>
    The truth is that most of the sports media commentators don't want ND to return to glory. <br/>
    <br/>
    Oh well, another day without a coach and another day for the media to rub NDs nose in the dirt every chance they get. Who will they say turned down the job today? More to come.......</t>

    Bill,

    He was a long time Miami commit. After Charlie was able to get in the door recruiting the kid, he started coming to ND games on his own dime. I'm glad to see the kid sticking around even if the guy who basically landed him is gone.

    I think our assistant Alford played a large part as well.

    There are, btw, a few assistants on this current staff that I'd like to see retained. Alford and Ianello are certainly 2 of them.

    Tim,

    You betcha!

    Ianello, Alford and Pollian would be good ones to keep. All are young and eager beavers on the recruiting trail. Some criticise Ianello as a WR coach, and more than a few would have deep sixed Pollian if he hadn't been the guy who was the point man on Dayne Crist, Manti Te'o, and a few others from the West Coast.

    I don't know about Randy Hart and Bryant Young, Young of course was a GA and isn't likely to be hired as the DL coach just yet but if I were a new coach I'd sure want a GA with all those SB Rings and Pro Bowl appearances on the staff.
