We don't talk NFL that much here...but it is the playoffs. Pat's look like the team to beat, again. Both the Packers and the Steelers are hot at the right time. I wasn't really surprised to see either team win yesterday. Dallas with 2 rookies in key positions just was ripe for the upset. But give them credit it took an incredible play from probably the best QB in the league to beat them. And the Chiefs were doomed by having Andy Reid on the sideline with his nose stuck behind his massive play calling sheet! But how dumb is Antonio Brown? To take video in the locker room of his coach calling out the Patriots. Tomlin and other players essentially said the speech stays in the locker room, so what does Brown do...post the whole thing on Facebook Live. Smart.
I have to agree with George, field goals are not going to beat the Pats.... Meanwhile the Vegas sports books took a loss as well this past weekend http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/las-vegas-sportsbooks-suffer-colossal-losses-nfl-weekend-action-011617 With the home-team New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons not only pulling out victories Saturday but covering their spreads as well — combined with the underdog, betting-friendly Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers winning their games outright on Sunday, several sportsbooks in Las Vegas (per ESPN) reported extreme losses and high paydays for the betting public. Jay Rood, vice president of MGM race and sports: “It’s just colossal.” Westgate SuperBook assistant manager Ed Salmons: “Awful. Can’t be worse.” Bill Sattler, Director of specialty games for Caesars Entertainment: “Seemed like a blue-collar betting day with public parlaying, teasing and pounding money lines on Packers and Steelers … We salvaged the under in (the) late game, but another solid week for the public.” And finally, the William Hill sportsbook conglomerate: William Hill, which operates sportsbooks at 108 locations throughout the state, reported suffering the worst day in the company’s five-year history in Nevada. So much parlay liability had built up over the weekend, the book’s “seven-figure” fate was sealed before the underdog Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 18-16 Sunday night. The towers in Las Vegas are tall for a reason — despite losing the battle, you have to imagine bookmakers will win the war. But, for now … YIKES. The next major skirmish between bettors and the bookmakers will occur this Sunday, as the Patriots (-6, William Hill) host the Steelers and the Falcons (-4, William Hill) welcome Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.
LOL...sports books have a bad weekend! It's going to be tough for the Steelers to win in Foxboro that's for sure, but one thing that won't bother them at least is the weather. If the Texans had an even competent QB vs the Pats they would have stood a chance with the way the defense played. But our QB was the worst in the league. I don't think the Steelers have nearly as good a defense as the Texans so Brady will feel pretty comfortable and pick them apart. On the other side, Matt Ryan looks like he's in that zone and Atlanta has a really good team. With Aron Rogers though the Pack is never really out of it for the most part.
Poor Kyle Shanahan took that 49n'ers job. Very tough place to get your first job. They are a hot mess.
The Falcons are a tough out for the Packers. The Pack is #1 against the run, but part of that is because you can throw the ball all over the yard against them. They came into the season thin, and injuries have just gutted their secondary. The Falcons are a team that can abandon the run, as great as they are with it, and just air it out. The only downside to that is you're now playing the Packers' game and it's very tough to beat Aaron Rodgers when you're playing by his house rules. The Pack will most likely load up to stop the run and dare Ryan to beat them, and hope for the best...or another Rodgers miracle.
Wow...what a game. It's tempting to say the Falcons blew it, but you have to give credit where credit is due. The Patriots came out and just took the momentum away from the Falcons and won the game. When they got the ball in OT I knew they were going to win, the Falcons defense was on it's heels and had no clue where the ball was going.
Matt Ryan blew that game. He never, never should have taken a sack when in easy FG range with just 3 min to go. That plus his fumble makes me wonder how he was MVP.
 Wow. No team had ever come back from more than a 10 point deficit in the Super Bowl until now. The Pats were down 25 in the 2nd half and pulled it off. Brady is leaving no doubters on his way to the HoF. Wowza.
This killed me!!, I'm yelling throw it away, throw it away....Kick a FG and the chance at victory is almost assured... Congratulations to the Patriots and their fans, great comeback..
Very stupid call by the O coordinator (if he called for the pass) and terrible execution by Ryan. That's up there with Seattle's pass at the goal line.
I have to give credit to the Pat's defense at that point, they were just not going to be denied and the Falcons OL couldn't stop them. But still as everybody has observed if they'd just ran the ball 3 times, even if each one was stuffed they could have 1) run more clock and 2) had a FG attempt. When the Patriots won the toss in OT I knew they would score a TD. By then the Falcons defense was gassed and had no clue what to do to stop the Pats. Have to give a lot of credit to Brady, he was sacked and hurried all night long but when it really counted his OL stepped up and he made laser like throws to his WR's...and they stopped dropping them. I know everybody wants to say Brady is now the greatest NFL QB or even player of all time. I'll say he's the greatest QB of his era. But it's so hard to compare players across era's. That's like saying because Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's record that he's a greater player than the Babe. Both were great players and can be described as amongst the greatest players of all time. But trying to say 1 guy is the greatest just doesn't work for me.
I agree completely. As much as it hurts to say it, Brady has established himself as the greatest QB of his era and is AMONG the greatest QBs of all time. In my opinion, there is no greatest ever.....and it IS a matter of opinion.
