I was looking at Mel Kipers "big board" and was struck by the fact that no Fla player was on that board of the top draft choices. I can't remember the last time a Nat'l Championship team had no big time players that were likely 1st Round draft choices. I think I remember Urban saying that there were 20+ Sr's on this squad and also if I remember correctly this Fla Sr. class was ranked #1 as recruits. Terry
Class in 2002 was #20, class in 2003 was #4. That 2003 class had 28 guys including 6 Juco and 3 early departures who didn't make it to 2006. Another 8 guys transferred and one, Marcus Thomas, was dismissed. That leaves the following 10: Cohen Caldwell - 1 year of eligibility but may be, probably is leaving for NFL Moss - 1 year of eligibilty but probably leaving for NFL Nelson - 1st rounder as an early entry as he has 1 more year of eligibility Everett Medder - coming back Rissler Leak Wilbur McMillian - coming back
Seniors from the 2002 class: Tookes - backup WR Brooks - backup DB McCollum #1 - #3 CB McCollum #2 - backup CB Harris - starting DT Crum - starting LB Cornelius - staring WR Wynn - starting TB Lewis - starting CB RayMac - starting DT DBaker, TD Maker - starting WR
For some reason I thought the Leake class was ranked #1. Not that #4 is anything to sneeze at though.
Terry, I believe Reggie Nelson and Jarvis Moss will end up being drafted pretty high. They are juniors who are expected to declare. Also Brandon Sieler will most likely declare and go on the first day. Dallas Baker, Ray McDonald and Steven Harris are pretty decent prospects.
Wide receiver Gonzalez announces for draft today. Looks like Pittman and Ginn are leaving as well Don
I support the right for Juniors to go to the draft... But I feel like this trend of everyone bolting after having one good year is bad for both the NFL and College ball...and maybe for some of the players.
It will ultimately have the same effect as it has on the NBA. It will lower the standards of the game, ie. sloppy play and poor fundamentals.
