The NFL draft begins tonight and lasts through Sat.

John Gruden on UF's best draft prospect:

“I love Dante Fowler. In my opinion, he’s the best defensive player in the draft.” — Monday Night Football analyst and former NFL head coach Jon Gruden

Most think that Lenoard Williams the USC DL is the best in the draft, other think it's Beasley the Clemson OLB.

This draft is the first one in awhile where an OT is not likely to be in the top 5 or 10 of the draft and where WR's will be.

The big question will be Mariota, today speculation is that Tenn will make a deal with Philly and Kelly will draft Marcus. Kelly has said though that he's not trading up to take him.

Texans have multiple needs and nobody knows who they will take. Local beat writer thinks it's Cameron Irving the OL from FSU. Which is a little bit surprising since OL isn't a huge need for us, not that you can ever have too much depth on the OL though. We really need a stud wR.

Anyone see the instagram pic. of Winston with crab legs? At least he didn't have a bound up female in the backround.

    Picks I don't understand:

    1. Buccaneers Jameis Winston QB
    11. Vikings Trae Waynes CB
    15. Chargers Melvin Gordon RB
    16. Texans Kevin Johnson CB
    23. Broncos Shane Ray DE

I have nothing against any of these players. I just think that there were better players available at each of those slots.

    Best 1st Round picks. (IMHO)

    22. Steelers Bud Dupree OLB
    6. Jets Leonard Williams DE
    12. Browns Danny Shelton NT
    20. Eagles Nelson Agholor WR
    29. Colts Phillip Dorsett WR

I thought that the Lions first round move was really smart. They got 2 OGs and 2 draft picks and moved down only 4 spots. If you only look at the player drafted it's not earthshaking but in total it was a very good move.
Abdullah may be a stretch. The knock on him is he has small hands and coughs up the ball too often. He is an exciting runner and could add a dimension to the Lions offence that they were looking for with Javid Best and then Reggie Bush.

Bryce Petty a 5th rounder and Hundley the UCLA kid a 5th rounder....we were lead to believe that at one point they were sure 1st round choices.

    :D

There was a ton of B.S. floating around before the draft and most of it surrounded the QBs. The truth is, this may have been the worst year for QBs...ever. Hundley really blew it. He was a first-rounder in 2013, but played his way lower last year. IMHO there was NOT a true 1st Round QB in this year's draft...

What two schools had more players drafted than any other school except for FSU..... ?

Florida with 8 is one.....Louisville (7) is the other.

Looks like ol Willy boy and Charlie Strong could recruit pretty darned well.

Good news for Texas and Auburn fans......

Miami had 7 selected and this makes me want to hurl this evenings dinner with our losing record. Doesn't say much for the coaching staffs who had excellent talent but never showed it on the field.....

Ditto on Muschamp as a head coach. However... when you consider how impotent his offenses were he is a helluva defensive coach.

The two games as head coach that is his legacy to me at UF were the Missouri game this year in which Mo. scored 42 points and yet only had about a 100 yards of offense and the FSU game where the defense came up with 4 picks on Winston in the first half and yet UF only led 12-0. The last pick resulted in a first down at the FSU 7 yard line but the offense turns the ball over over on a pick six.... 12-7 game suddenly and the rest was history.

    Maddening....

Ralph, dwelling on things like that could scar you for life.

    Like me, for instance;

In the 1973 draft Purdue had 8 players drafted; 3 first rounders and 2 second rounders; Dave Butz, Otis Armstrong, Daryl Stingley, Gary Hrivnak, Steve Baumgartner, Gregg Bingham, Brent Myers, and Donn Smith...

and with great coaching we managed to finish 6-5 including a loss to Bowling Green.

But who remembers things like that?

    Meanwhile, the Buckeyes are looking at losing quite a few to the draft next year;

Ironic in that Ohio State won the in 2002 and 2014 National Championship and no first rounders from either year.

Yet those individuals who were not drafted, were vital cogs in our winning those championships. Teams, not individuals, will always win championships!

Yeah there is some difference between having a great team and a team full of NFL prospects...sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't.

During Lou Holtz's run from 87 through 93 he had teams loaded with future NFL draft picks, and while he did win the '88 Nat'l Title, some of his later teams maybe had more talent but couldn't win another Nat'l Title. He was always in the hunt but couldn't get that 2nd Title.

BTW: Seahawks are getting some criticism for their draft of ex-UM player Frank Clark who was kicked off the team after a domestic violence incident. According to the Seahwaks GM they never would have drafted Clark if they thought the charges were credible, but they did extensive investigation and determined he was ok. Well it turns out that extensive investigation was asking Clark if he did it. The Seatte Times has an expose of what the incident was about and how the Seahawks really didn't investigate it at all.

I guess the question is now what do you do with players involved in domestic violence? 2nd chance, counseling, etc. Twitter and the media sort of get on a roll of seeing who can be more outraged about domestic violence without offering any solutions. Can the individual be seperate on the field from his off the field. Can you root for Mayfield? Look at that OL from LSU who was at one time a 1st rounder, went undrafted though. So far he's not been charged with anything. Several players had their draft status affected by off the field issues, Dorial Green-Bechham would have been a 1st rounder if he'd not had the incident at Missouri that resulted in him being dimissed and not playing at all last year. Randy Gregory of Neb, and Shane Ray of Missouri all got busted for weed and it affected their draft status.

In the new "no nonsense" NFL teams are having to make some hard choices with regards to players.

Interesting that Georgia was #2. Fla, Calif and Texas always used to be ahead of Georgia.
