Of course you can't know if it's a good hire till he's been on the job for awhile, but he's been pretty darn successful in the business world.

I guess we have to can the joke about how you get a Mich grad off your front porch.....pay him for the pizza! :)

That's a strange career move but it could be a really good move for Michigan.

I imagine that being a former player and having been extremely successful as a businessman that he considers it an honor to be able to go back to his alma mater and serve as the AD. He's probably so well set financially that it's not really about the money, more about the service.

I know when we have had alumni serving as the AD they always mentioned that they were doing it because they loved their old school and wanted to serve and give back. It wasn't about the money. Although I'm sure AD's at places like UM, UF, OSU, ND, etc are paid very well.

Don, I think it is a good choice. It is an interesting move on his part because it was thought he was going to run for governor as a Republican and would have been a credible candidate given his success as a very businessman versus Michigan's economic meltdown.

At his press conference, he mentioned his unhappiness with the infighting going on after Carr's retirement and Rich Rod's hiring and promised to end the fratricide presently going on. Good Luck with that.

Re Monaghan. he sold his interest in Dominos in the late 1980s for 1 billion dollars and found religon. He founded a conservative, Catholic law school called Ave Maria, first based in Ann Arbor but now located Naples Florida. He is also forming a community under the Ava Maria name in Naples that has angered liberal activists and a financial institution which sells mutual funds whose investments are based on Catholic principles. Lou Holtz is on the Board of Advisors for the Fund.

Thanks for the info, Bobda. You triggered my feeble memory. I now recall hearing about Monahan's post-Domino's activities.

Hey played for Bo? If so I think that probably sends a message.

He was recruited by Bump Elliot but played for Bo. Claims he developed his leadership skills by observing Bo.

Very rich and has donated big bucks to the university

Close with Lloyd. Was on the search committee and supposedly wanted Miles but that is internet gossip and I think suspect given that Carr was not a Miles fan.

Supposedly he and RR have a good relationship but if the NCAA smacks us hard, he strikes me as someone who would not hesitate to jettison RR.

I have played golf at Ave Maria a couple of times. Nice course (GC at Dell Webb) and close to the Seminole Casino.
