Seems like a trend here with Miami and UF hiring coordinators rather than
proven head coaches. Given some other recent hires like Rich Rod at Michigan ( who I thought was perfect for the job ) ....why not?

Ahem....Miami hired a head coach this time instead of a coordinator and I am glad. As much as I have admired Randy Shannon the move from coordinator to head coach was hard on him and he made mistakes in that dept. I expect the new coach at UF will make "New head coach mistakes" as well no matter how gifted he is. It just comes with the position.

Alfred James Golden (born July 4, 1969) is the head football coach at the University of Miami, a position he has held since December 2010. Prior to joining the University of Miami, he served for five years as defensive coordinator at Virginia and five years as the head coach at Temple.

He is also a former tight end for the New England Patriots of the NFL.

    I stand corrected REC.

Posted in haste but you have to admit Golden is a lesser known commodity though.

:D No big thing....He was not the headliner name like Gruden that's for sure. Maybe that means he will actually stay at Miami instead of using us a springboard.

Or until Jo Pa mummifies from old age and is no longer at Penn St. :p

There is something to be said for that.

That is one thing said about the possible hiring of Harbaugh ( NFL bound ).

I do think though that Harbaugh would stay at Michigan for a few years and I can't see why the Maize and Blue brass wouldn't spring for him right now......unless the payoff is too good from Ohio State to keep RR... :D

Al Golden is not really a lesser known commodity than Muschamp to those of us who follow college football. Many, myself included really wanted him to be the DCoord on Charlies first staff, he was well known as a great recruiter and a young Coord on the rise.

There are those who feel that he will be the guy to take over Penn State when JoePa finally retires.

I would have thought from a coaching standpoint that Edsall would have been a safer hire given the experience factor, but I don't know much about him as a recruiter. Given the fact that he would have to go up against Muschamp and Fisher, I'd feel better with Golden than Edsall.

I happened to catch part of the show "Are you smarter than a 5th grader" yesterday. A Michigan Junior was the contestant. He wound up "flunking out" in the show missing some pretty easy questions while getting some hard ones. At the end, as all contestants that don't make it all the way, he had to look into the camera and state his name plus: "I'm not smarter than a 5th grader". He added a little twist to it though. His quote was: "I am smarter than a OSU Buckeye but I'm not smarter than a 5th grader."

Im starting a topic on the back room with a question he answered. Not saying whether he got it right or wrong.

I think Golden played for JoePa at Penn State, didn't he? I think you'll be very happy with him.
