 I have always been pretty skeptical of the early polls and think that they should wait until mid October until they release the first one. After seeing my Canes move up in a big way in this AP poll I now can add superstitious as another reason not to release polls early...

I used to feel that way RECcane, but in fact there is a poll that doesn't come out till Oct and it's the Harris poll. Funny thing is that Harris poll and the other 2 polls are all pretty much the same, so not having a poll till Oct really doesn't change anything.

The biggest problem is it pisses people off when a highly ranked team loses early and everybody uses that to justify why they shouldn't have a poll. But in the end it rarely makes any difference, about the only place it can make a difference is if you start low and have a great season it's tough to pass some of the teams ahead of you. But really not much of a big deal.
