Well from the looks of it Kelly and the team aren't taking this game for granted and have already been preparing. Hopefully it pays off cause I'm ready to kick Navy's arse all over the field this year. Service Academy or not.
I caught that, Tim. Pretty interesting, and very unusual for a coach to admit he had his staff and team looking ahead. Bet he wouldn't have said that if he hadn't won!! The worst news I saw is that Theo Riddick is injured and they are going to do a MRI on his ankle. That kid is just electric with the ball, we need the ball to be in his hands more. BTW anybody seen Duval Kamarra?
Here's some of what we can expect from that classy Navy football program and their oh so dignified coach: http://www.ndnation.com/boards/showpost.php?b=football;pid=136890;d=this While I may respect the Naval Academy and it mission, anyone who thinks this Team and it's coach deserve any respect are sorely mistaken.
On a side note I parked last week on the grounds of the Navy Stadium for a shuttle over to the Annapolis Boat Show. Spent the week up in Md., NJ and De. Annapolis is a pretty town and the Grasonville/Kent Island area is very nice as well.
As a Navy Vet this game always conflicts me. I love the fact that in the last 10 years Navy football has become competitive again, not national championship competitive but they soundly beat a decent Missouri team in the Texas Bowl, have gone into Columbus and came within an eyelash of beating the Buckeyes and have beaten ND twice. I also like the style of football that they play, to me it's very exciting. I also like the Air Force and they have been an excellent program for years being one of the top teams every year in the Mtn West. It seems that Army has now joined the group and seems to be a competitive team this year. They lost to Rutgers in OT last weekend. But that said, the OL blocking schemes that go with the Service Academy version of the option are very hard on the DL's. ND had two broken legs one time in a game vs Air Force. So not only do you have to prepare for a high speed option offense but also for protecting yourself along the LOS. But this weekend I'll put my love of Navy football aside and hope we beat the tar out of them and that they then go on a winning streak to finish out the year in a bowl game and a bowl win!!
Apparently JO'Co has good reason to fear the Goat!! No word if the Goat was a Navy fan and the deceased a Notre Dame Fan! Fear the Goat
They shoulda gone kayaking in the Florida Keys instead: http://en.terra.com/latin-in-america/news/barracuda_attacks_woman_in_kayak_sends_her_to_the_hospital/hof12154
Damn between those sturgeon jumping in boats and injuring people in the Sewanee River in Fla, the bill fish spearing people in Fla, I'm staying the heck out of or near the freaking water in Fla!!
Damn.....this place is dangerous!!! http://www.slate.com/id/112116/ http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23727914/
Back to Navy... From what I'm reading their offense is struggling due to youth along the OL, they aren't getting that dive play from the fullback because they don't have the center that they thought they would going into the season, injury I think. That has hurt the outside running by the pitch backs. But they have been in every game due to a pretty good defense. Hopefully guys like Ian Williams, Carlo, Te'o and Zeke Motta will have big days on defense and our injury riddled skill players will step up in the true "next man in" tradition and have good days. Certainly I hope Cierre Wood gets a lot of caries, and that TJ Jones will have a good day in the slot. We may even see Duval Kamarra.
I think we'll be OK against the run. Manti, Carlo and Zeke take that running stuff real personal. My only concern is with those guys remembering their assignments on passing downs. Sometimes they get carried away with hitting people...
Agreed, playing Navy is all about remembering your assignment and doing it, and your teammates the same. Get "fished out" of your assignment and boom there they go!
