Well Martin is taking the Miami(OH) HC position. Hope he does well. With the exception of his play calling he was a valuable member of the staff and a Great guy. Now, who 's our next OC?
This may sound bad, but I don't think our OC matters as much because it is Kelly's offense. I think moving Martin to OC was just proof that Kelly doesn't care who the OC is since it's his offense no matter what. He was trying to keep 2 good friends and coordinators happy so he moved one over to the offensive side of the ball. That probably helped his 'grooming' on the resume as well. I wouldn't even be shocked to see a promotion within and then hire a young, hungry recruiter type for the vacated position spot.
Denbrock or Alford. Kelly has more history with Denbrock, but he's not likely to leave if he doesn't get the job while there is sentiment that Alford might be pretty unhappy if he doesn't get the job. Either way I'd be shocked if Kelly didn't promote one of those 2 guys. People who are thinking Kelly will hire a big name OCoord who will come in and revamp the offense are just wishing and hoping it's not going to happen.
Martin followed Kelly as a NC coach at Grand Valley State. He did a nice jobs with the D backs. He might have been more effective as an O coordinator if he had a top QB. It looked to me that more often than not Rees checked out of the called play.
ND <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> I don't have any problem with the offense at all when we have the QB to run it, so I'm not wanting to bring in a OC who would change what we've been trying to do, especially with a dual threat QB. I just had a problem with the play calling this year. Maybe the Gipper is right though, Tommy did seem to check out of every play that was that was called. <br/> <br/> Just my 2 cents but I would be more than happy to have Alford in that position.(OC)</r>
