I guess we can have a seperate topic. Kelly had his press conference yesterday. Said both Zaire and Golson will play vs LSU, said that the rumor of suspended RB's (Jack Arute) was/is false. Also said McGlinchey is competing with Lombard for the RT start. Lombard being a Sr. with no eligibility left so I hope if he's ready that we see a lot of McGlinchey. Lombard deserves to play, he's been a warrior on the OL, not a great player but he's given all he had to give. Not sure if he has any future in the Pro's but I'd hate to see him kicked to the curb for his last game. Let him start and play McGlinchey a lot. Sheldon Day not 100%.
Hockey off till end of Dec in a College Hockey Tourney in of all places...Florida. M BBall Sat in Indy vs Purdue. Boilermakers are 10-3 . IU will play Butler. Purdue is 0-3 in the Crossroads and the Irish are 2-1. W. BBall plays Sunday vs St. Joe's at home.
Recruting/Roster Math. 21 commits + 23 sophomores-to-be (including VanGorder) + 22 juniors-to-be +12 seniors-to-be (including Russell and Baratti). That's a total of 78. Assume Baratti is done and VanGorder doesn't get a scholarship unless we have room at the beginning of the next season, and that takes us down to 76, so probably at least 9 available. 15 potential fifth years: Golson Carlisle Daniels Hegarty Martin Hanratty Hounshell Rabasa Williams Schmidt Grace Councell Farley Hardy Brown
Jaylon Smith 2nd team AP AA. I'm a little surprised after the collapse of the defense in the last 4 games I figured he wouldn't make many AA teams.
I would be willing to venture a guess that the Irish will be in the hunt for a coach right after the bowl game. There will be numerous openings in the NFL shortly and Kelly is at or near the top of most lists.
Of the 15 potential 5th years that Terry listed, assuming that there are 9 spots available, the following are my choices to return. I've communicated this to the Coach. Golson Carlisle Daniels Martin Hanratty Williams Schmidt Farley Brown Anyone else care to offer their choices?
If there are only 7 spots available, I would agree with all your choices. I included Hanratty for OL depth only and Williams in the hope he would finally meet expectations.
That goes for you also George....and Corey....and Tim.....Gipper...already have Doc's input....(Commie)....I forget anybody?......JOCO and Di going to game....wearing Scarlet Red and Cream......Jiffy?.....
Uh, AJ, I'm considering it. Either way, it wouldn't be "big" points. The two teams are evenly matched. I'm still learning at my advanced age how not to pick with my heart. In this case, it involves a team I despise. Not the Huskers, of course.
ND <t>Huskerman,<br/> <br/> I'm not in the Bowl Pick'em or whatever it's called now. I found out I'm no good at the whole Pick'em thing a couple seasons ago. <br/> <br/> I see the Huskers are playing USC though so I'll definitely be rooting for your team.</t>
I think I picked USC to win this game though.. I gotta go back and check. Anyone want anything from the bowl game? I got my parking pass today. I have to set up the printer now with the new laptop so we can print off our tickets. The day is getting near.
Corey, I think I read that the forecast for the bowl game is closer to South Bend weather than Nashville. Keep an eye on it an dress warm if that's the case. Your Indiana Mother
haha thanks Sid. We've been getting snow and cold weather here for the past few years. Typically, this is a pretty cold game. I watch it every year and keep looking for a reason to go.
Irish picked up a verbal from Indy Safety Mykelti Williams, but reportedly Prentice Williams is wavering and visiting UCLA. We really need Williams and Safeties in this class. Tomorrow is the basketball game with Purdue in Indy. Things looking up for Irish Men in basketball, ranked in the top 20 right now.
PLAYING PURDUE • Saturday will be the 42nd meeting all-time between Notre Dame and Purdue. The Irish hold a 21-20 edge in the series, including a two-game win streak over the Boilermakers. • The last meeting occurred at the 2012 Crossroads Classic and the Irish came away with an 81-68 victory. • The two programs first met in on Dec. 15, 1916. Prior to the 2004 meeting (a 71-59 Irish victory in the Postseason NIT), the Irish and Boilermakers had not squared off since the 1965-66 season. Notre Dame and Purdue met 28 times from 1942-66 (24 seasons). • The Fighting Irish and Boilermakers have met 10 previous times in Indianapolis and Notre Dame is 8-2 in those contests. Nine of those showdowns took place inside Butler's Hinkle Fieldhouse. • Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey is 2-1 all-time against Purdue (2-0 at Notre Dame). His first NCAA tournament game as a head coach was against the Boilermakers. Brey's Delaware squad fell to a Gene Keady-led Purdue team, 95-56, in the first round of the 1998 tournament in Chicago.
