My question is: How can a program be held responsible for what a student athlete does with regards to an agent if there was no connection between the school and the agent? This just doesn't seem right. NCAA looking into South Carolina's Weslye Saunders connection with the same agent associated with some UNC student athletes
yeah apparently Dareus says he was at the party, paid his own way, did not know it was thrown by an agent and he was the only Alabama player there. The party was in June.
Saban said... Looks like the agent paid one player to help recruit other players and bring them to South Beach. Oh yeah it looks like Georgia is next up, NCAA notified them that they will be looking into their program next. [/quote]
Yup I waiting for NFL players to start turning on their agents, oh yeah that's going to happen real soon. Agent Crisis
Mike Slive....SEC Commish: "“These discussions include a review of current NCAA rules,” Slive said, “which in my view may be as much a part of the problem as they are part of the solution, because the rules make it difficult for student-athletes to seek and obtain the kind of advice in the contest in which they need it to properly evaluate potential opportunities for a career in professional sport. “Dealing with improper agent conduct has been a challenge for a long time, but not only for intercollegiate athletics, but also for the many good agents who try to follow the rules. It is time to reexamine the NCAA rules that relate to agents.”
So let's see now, Fla., Ala., So. Car., and now Ga. Yeah, it must be the rules that are the problem.
You're not acknowledging the root cause of the problem Gipper.....which is the unscrupulous agents "pimping" themselves out and luring these kids with cash. Sure....the kid himself completes the deal but that isn't something everyone can control every minute of every day. The deal doesn't even get started without the agents breaking their own rules.
Sure MCG Kids get lied to by the coaches that are recruiting them. Teams break rules about practice times etc. Coaches pull scholarships from kids becasue they're not part of the 2 deep roster. Kids are told that they will start right away, be allowed to play RB etc. and end up on the bench for 2 yrs. and are moved to defense. Now I see coaches like Saban decrying how these sleezeball agents are taking advantage of these naive kids. How come these players have no integrity? Beats me.
Imagine having your university 10 miles away from South beach where it seems all the pretty people play....
If these players accepted anything from these agents or entered into any agreements then they will be punished. The travesty is that nothing will happen to the agent. He will just move on to his next "mark". Kind of like the drug buyer getting busted while the drug seller watches the arrest.
Good points Kp....I agree. I think the danger for the school is in not knowing and then finding out after important games are played. Say this occurred before Bama played in the BCS game ( if it were true of course )....then what?? What a friggin mess that would be and only a few haters would actually blame the Bama program for it and yet Bama could stand to lose the title over it...which would be absolutely rididculous.....unless the coaches knew about it and played the player anyway.
