Speaking of lines I see we're 3 pt. favorites. With the home field being worth 3 pts. it means.......oh, hell!

You can probably pencil Navy in for 250 yards rushing right now. They average over 300 ypg. That means that the Irish offense will not have the ball a lot. That means we have to score when we do have it. I think we have scored 8 TDS all year.

Should we beat them. Absolutely. But Navy always plays us tough. I would take the Midshipmen +3

I've been thinking about this a lot this week. Jvan over on NDNation has predicted a 38-31 Navy win this Saturday. His reasoning is that our offense just is too weak to outscore Navy and the defense not capable of shutting them down.

Of course he could be right, but this is by far the weakest defense that we have played all year, the next weakest defense we played was Purdue and that was the game our offense looked the best...not great or dominant of course since we did lose to them. But still this Navy defense is really bad, somebody over there worked this up to prove the point.

    RUSHING DEFENSE
    #2 Boston College
    #7 USC
    #8 Georgia Tech
    #12 Penn State
    #17 UCLA
    #36 Michigan
    #38 Michigan State
    #39 Purdue
    #82 NAVY

    PASS DEFENSE
    #17 USC
    #22 Michigan
    #34 Georgia Tech
    #38 Penn State
    #39 Michigan State
    #77 Purdue
    #84 UCLA
    #100 Boston College
    #109 NAVY

    TOTAL DEFENSE
    #4 USC
    #7 Georgia Tech
    #12 Penn State
    #20 Boston College
    #21 Michigan
    #36 Michigan State
    #42 UCLA
    #56 Purdue
    #105 NAVY

    SCORING DEFENSE
    #6 Georgia Tech
    #12 Boston College
    #14 Penn State
    #15 USC
    #21 Michigan
    #38 Purdue
    #48 UCLA
    #56 Michigan State
    #114 NAVY

The one defense ND has faced that is currently ranked outside of of the Top Fifty surrendered three touchdowns, 21 first downs, and 426 yards to ND. Navy is only forty nine spots behind Purdue.

ND has played four excellent defenses, two above average defenses, and one average defense. Navy's defense is terrible.

As far as our defense, this will be the first time that NT Pat Kuntz will not be facing an OL that physically outmatches him and he's kid who really does come to play, but is really too light for a NT. So possiblly he'll be able to handle the Navy inside game, and maybe TommyZ will have a great game playing the option, he'll need to have one. I don't know it's not like Minters defenses got blown out by Navy in the last 2 years.

I think this isn't the year we lose to Navy.

:D 8) I do not disagree that ND has more than a fair and reasonable shot at winning this game.

Neveretheless. I dispute the focus on how bad is Navy's D.....as Notre Dame's D is just as bad or worse......therefore neutral ground for both Ds

Next you go to scoring offense and points.......Navy is way ahead in total ppg s.........52 points generated in offense in their most recent loss.

Ergo, I could make an argument that Navy has the trump card due to its more productive Offense.

Don't see a blowout either way but I could be wrong.

    Prediction Navy 24 ND 21

I don't get it....The defense hasn't played bad, just on the field way too much. ND gets it done tomorrow hopefully even though deep down wouldn't mind this year if Navy won.

Well it had to end sometime. Congratulations to the Middies. I believe the last time Navy beat Notre Dame the Irish went 2 and 7.

You are correct, PJ. I was a sophomore at ND. We would have been 2-8, but the Iowa game was cancelled after Pres. Kennedy's assassination.

I think we Irish could use a little cheering up, so I'd like to introduce you to someone. He's a graduate of Damien High School and the University of Notre Dame. He's one of Corey's friends and classmates, as well as a family friend of my in-laws, the Callens, who sent this to me. His parents are from Ireland and they're nice people too. His name is Sean Gilboy.

When he played football for Damien, he was a backup linebacker who did the craziest thing I've ever seen. Against Pomona HS, he intercepted a pass on the 2-yard line. Instead of just walking in for a TD, he began to dance. He held the ball up, spun around several times, hopped back and forth like an Indian rain dance...finally, after nearly ten seconds of this nonsense, a Pomona player ran over and blasted him down, still inches short of the only touchdown he ever would have scored...

Like Corey, he's a funny guy. Here is a current video of him serving his country in Iraq as a captain in the U.S. Army. He's a psychologist...

That was a nice letter, and I visited the Navy Scout site and most of the posts over there were very appreciative of the treatment that they received from the ND team after the game and ND fans before/during and after the game.

They were esp impressed that after a gut wrenching loss ending the 43 year streak that Weis and the team came over and stood shoulder to shoulder with them singing their alma mater.

I was at a wedding reception and could not watch the last part of the game and the overtime. I did not know if the team had done that like they did last year. I'm glad to know it happened.
